raisin paska bread (a sweet bread with raisins)
keilbasa
ham
liver
hard boiled eggs
horseradish
unsalted butter
salt/pepper

sounds gross.  if any of those things were on a plate in front of me i would not eat a single one (save for the bread).  put together it is the best food i've ever had.  grampy ate it every easter of his life, (his father ate it every easter of his, too) i've eaten it every easter of mine.  easter is the only time we have it.

Wow! Well, I guess I'll have to take your word for it.  ;D I can't even imagine that combo.

Does it have a name or is it a tradition for someone other that your great-grandfather or did he create it? and if so, why Easter? I know it must have an interesting story behind it.

I just finished a Chocolate Chip Chewy Granola Bar by Sunbelt Snacks and  Cereals. It cost a whopping 25 cents at the Jiffy Food Store.

each food symbolizes something different (and probably catholic), it brings good blessings or good fortune or something like that to eat it.  no idea if there is an actual name (if so, it would be Polish).

xmas eve is the same way.  the different foods each have a meaning and all must be eaten (even a small bite).

Thanks vxn, I was sure it had to have a meaning, because I can't imagine someone throwing that together, just to see how it would taste. That's not saying that it doesn't taste good, but I've always wondered about different food combos and how they came about. Who was the first "brave one". LOL
