After reading what you guys make with a slow cooker, I bought one.  Not to thrilled so far.  Especially with the recipe my wife used.

It was Pot Roast with vegetables.   Cook for 6 hours on low, not done.  Two more hours on high and well, let me put it this way, it was eatable.  Going to have to learn temperatures and cookingtimes, the book isn't to enlightening.  Recipe was bland to say the least.  Troll is going to have to "ramp up the flavors" this recipe needs some help.

Back to cooking 101.  Did find a good looking recipe for Chinese chicken wings.  The recipe read good with the right seasonings.

They don't call them "slow cookers" for nothing yah know!

Pot roast need minimum 4 hours on high or 8 hours on low. With meats a cup to a cup and a half of water is all you need, unlike the old ones where you had to load them up with water.

The thicker the cut the longer time you need to cook it. I usually take a fork to it and if it falls apart it is done.

I got used to them because you could plug it in before leaving for work, and by the time you got home it was done. . . Kind of torture when you are home with it all day though. You'll put on 20 pounds waiting for it to get done!

Exactly PH! I love my slow cooker for just that reason. In fact I have two large ones and a small one so that I can cook an entire meal if I want and not have to cook anything when I get home. My slow cooker, steamer and grill are the three most used "appliances" in my house. I haven't used the oven since Christmas.

Troll, there's so much out there. I'm learning new recipes every day. Honestly, you can google crock pot recipes and find a lot. Most of them contain reviews and alterations and it gives you an idea if it's going to be good or not.

I'm using mine to make Jambalya this weekend.

We have 1 large one, which I put a picture of in the Wendy's Chili topic, and two of them that are "traditional sized" and then for parties or gatherings, we have 4 or 5 smaller ones for dips, meatballs, cheeses, veggies, etc.

I absolutely love them and I believe that we use ours just as much as we do the stovetop and oven! In fact, more often than the microwave!

The fact that they cook at such a low temp over a period of time really makes them versatile and can make coming home to a delicious home cooked meal a reasonable expectation!
