Fried Cubed steak cooked in mushroom gravy.

me

Dried beef gravy, biscuits, and fried 'taters.  Sure wish they still made dried beef like they used to and canidian bacon as well.  That stuff they make now is a joke and doesn't taste near as good.

Were you able to find some that wasn't frozen and/or in paper thin strips?  I would like to have some liver but all I can find are sliced so thin it's ridiculous.  I haven't been to Harvest on 8th St. for a while I hope they still sell the fresh there and will cut it into thicker slices.  They had started cutting it so thin you could read a newspaper through it last time I was there and the butcher argued with me that I didn't want it thick 'cause it would be tough.  Shows ya what he knows about how to cook liver.

This is the first I have had liver in three years.  The last time I had it was in Florida and got the worst case of food poison I ever had.

I bought the calves liver at Kroger and it was frozen.  It did seen thin until I put flour and fried it.   I also soaked it in milk for about 2 hours.  They say that soaking it in milk get rid of any bitter taste.  Well it worked on mine.

It turned out so good I'm going to buy some more.  I do think that you can slice it too thick.

Bitter liver????  Can't say I've ever eaten beef liver that was bitter and hope I don't ever run across any.  I do mine in gravy and it needs to be between 1/4 and 1/2 in thick to do right like that.  It's always melt in your mouth tender and the gravy goes great over mashed 'taters.  I put some onion in to cook with the liver the entire time and then some just before it gets done to be a little crunchy.  Some people don't like it cooked in gravy so the thinner pieces do work out better that way.

Ham, smoked turkey, mashed 'taters, turkey and dumplin's, deviled eggs, dressing, smoked sausage, green beans, and 'taters, peanut butter fudge,  some cheese and crackers, and I don't remember what all else.  I only had a little of almost everything that was there.  Went to a friends annual Christmas party and that whole family can really cook.  There was tons of food and I got full waaaaay too quick.

Fresh oysters.  Breaded, fried and you place two or three in a slice of buttered bread with a glass of iced tea or a cold beer.  No better eating.  :drool1:
