Idiots and the Internet

I have a very hard time psyching myself up for arguing with idiots on the internet.

I had a vision that the internet, and places like this, could be an Agora where people could congregate and use facts, evidence, and logic to come to a consensus for issues necessary to propagate a free self-governing people, but instead I found too many crazies that don't care about anything but their insanity who beat the sane voices down by sheer numbers and volume.

This is still one good spot, but even here no matter how hard I try, or how well I present the evidence/facts, or how compelling my argument I can't persuade even one of the fantasists that their worldview doesn't have a leg to stand on.

It's as I stated elsewhere on the forum, I now see America as an asylum being run by the inmates and I fear for us.

RE: the number of idiots online ...

I had a theory once about this. It's as if the Internet opened up a way for everyone to be seen (albeit anonymously) and 'published' on the internet and the narcissists and self-centered types piled on.

LOL!  I've had several conversations specifically on that topic.

Face Book is a prime example of that phenomena.  FB, Twitter, etc. are made for, and up of, narcissists who think they're so self-important that the world should know every little thought they have, thing they do, etc..  It's exactly why I have none of them and use none of them.

The situation you describe is very akin to teaching.

The recipient must be willing to accept the information and then process it; else, the dialogue cannot continue.

If each (or one) party has preconceived ideas about  what is being discussed, the exercise is one of futility.

Otherwise, green is green to one and red to the other.

Having taught music for nigh on forty years I know exactly what you're talking about.  I can't even begin to number the students who knew nothing about music but not only knew what they needed to learn and how they needed to learn it.  Needless to say they didn't.

You are one of the overpaid and under worked teachers who are always wanting to dip into my pocket for more money because you think you  deserve it.

You really don't know what the hell you're talking about at all, do you?

Try the job and see if you can stand it for a week before you go wagging your tongue about things that you really aren't qualified to assess.

Being a private music teacher would have to be a pain at times and I wouldn't do it for all the money in the world.  However, on the upside there would have to be those few students that make it all worth it when they actually do something worthwhile with what you taught them.

As far as FB goes there are those few idiots on there but it is a good way to keep in touch with family and friends and also a good way to keep up on local happenings.  A person can enjoy it without getting all hung up on the stupid stuff.  FB was never meant to be a gathering place for serious discussions nor was Twitter.

The obvious irony here is how these miscreants bitch about "their" money while people like me who have no children have been subsidizing their inbred heel-spawn for our entire lives.

So do I and I don't mind as long as we have the school we have for our town.  It's one of the highest rated high schools in Indiana.

Of course.  The obvious difference is that there were never any children I fathered in the system and more importantly, I'm not bitching about it.  My point was that the people who are always doing the complaining about how money is being taken away from them and given to others are often those who are actually sponging off of everyone else.

Yes, because it's far better to fill the world with sub-100 IQ illiterate rednecks than intelligent, articulate, educated people.  Congratulations on propagating the planet with the least fit and least resourceful of our species; you've fooled evolution!
