That was my understanding as well.  He was my Facebook friend some time ago but seems to have disappeared from there.

That's strange.  Wonder if he moved to Tn where his mother is.  I never thought about looking him up on FB but I guess there's no point now.

I've decided I'm agin' it.  On wildlife/nature concerns and the improbability/impossibility of addressing the very real environmental issues.

Not that any of that will matter to those who stand to make money from the reservoir.

Yep, they're pretty much gonna do what they're gonna do and worry about the consequences later as usual. I can't really say that fighting it is useless though 'cause Helen Wean did one hell of a job of rallying the forces to fight that landfill.

The owner of the mall and the owners of all that future lake bottom property all stand to make too much money over this deal. Then there are the "chain" stores that will trample each other to get into the new mall along I69.

A lil garbage and some bats aren't going to matter with all that going on and the state needing additional fesh water reserves for central Indiana. They'll just grab some superfund money from the Feds and figure the bats will go to Delaware county.

Then there's the increases to the revenue stream for Andertard. Umm, I don't think anything short of a living T Rex is going to stop the flooding of the Mounds.

It sounds to me like ONE way of revitalizing Anderson.....and Chesterfield.  I haven't really followed much of this except on here.

Is it a good thing or a bad thing PH?

IMHO it is (long term) a good thing. . .

It will force reorganization of the city's business zones, and potentially create high value real estate with waterfront property alongside a much larger body of water.

It will create a water reserve that HOPEFULLY will allow the city to reduce the price we pay for water. (NOT likely).

It will provide recreational opportunities beyond fishing for carp and kayaking / canoeing down the shallow White River.

It will provide habitat for waterfowl that will place them within a "safe zone" surrounding hunting.

It will make good use of what is now marginally useful commercial property and force those businesses to relocate to an area that makes them more competitive with regionally located retailers. (I-69 between exit 222 and the Pendleton exit).

It will marginalize or altogether eliminate the risks associated with the levee that is dilapidated and at risk of failure.

It will also create about 5-10 years of bitching and moaning from the local residents as the ongoing construction takes place. . .

Okay, you sold me!  I think Anderson MUST do something...those all seem like valid reasons.

Not likely indeed.  You really don't pay that much for water; it's the sewer bills that are killer.

You've got that right.  I think we have one of the lowest water rates in the state.

Sewer bills weren't bad either until the fish kill.

Sewer is almost triple the water bill now and then there's the trash fee and that wonderful $3.50 charge that was supposed to be to upgrade the sewer system the Lawler started.  Minimum bill for lights and water is now around $100 pr month.

Yes. Those charges, when added to the per gallon cost of water each month, make the amount we pay for water among the highest in the Midwest . (If not the highest)

The reason I look at it that way is that is the way they charge us. You get charged sewer fees for every gallon of water you use; whether it goes onto your grass, into your pool, or into the sewers. It all costs the same.

Our neighbors have an in-ground pool and whenever they need to add water to it they call the water company and get a credit on their bill. We use well water for our lawn, we didn't close our well when we hooked up to city water.
