Figures Ocky would have thought that was a good idea.  I'm sure glad Smith isn't for it I think somebody hit their head.

The sad reality is that if something isn't done to control the storm water, and better control implemented over the flooding of the White River, the county may not have to spend a dime and get a reservoir anyway.

This could be a win if they don't notify anyone when they open the gates and let the water in!

Anderson would do what Indianapolis did with Morse and Geist Reservoirs.  Steal the land under eminent domain and then make it a private lake by selling million dollar lots for super rich people to build million dollar houses.

Since old King Smith couldn't steal 27 acres of farm land, I guess he wants to drown part of Anderson.  Nice try on stealing farm ground King Kevin.  :haha:  :haha:  And old "ME" and Henry just loves King Kevin.  :haha:

This wasn't Smith's idea and from what little I have read about it he is not in favor of it. It did however obtain the support of Ocky and his "Farm Team". . . .

Again I will state that sooner or later this will become reality when that levee breaks. . .

Where does it say that Smith isn't for it?

From the article posted: . . .Anderson Mayor Kevin Smith said he's been aware of the concept for about a year. But Smith said his administration has played no role in the project's development and that it wasn't a factor in his Anderson Fast Forward Annexation proposals. Sparks said he first discussed the idea with Kris Ockomon, who was Anderson mayor 2008-11, and that the Ockomon administration was supportive of developing the proposal. . . "It's an interesting project," Smith said Thursday. "Obviously, this has some long-term ramifications for the City of Anderson. It sounds logical, and its seems viable for the city."

He noted that the project's scope would be challenging, but he said such an attraction would make Anderson a recreational destination and improve the city's quality of life, drawing new housing and retail opportunities and other economic development to Anderson and surrounding areas. . .

http://heraldbulletin.com/bigstory/x620874989/Reservoir-proposed-for-area

So it would seem this project was "hatched" under the Ocky Administration; the same one that brought us the busted Farm project. However that isn't the end of things it would seem.

Madison County politics being what they are, the powers that oppose the current administrations "Fast Forward" project are now diligently at work spinning the reservoir project and trying to connect it directly to fast forward and the  current Mayor's administration.

This smacks of payback for the dead farm project, and most certainly is business as usual surrounding Madison County politics. Accusations of back room dealings and closed door politics abound, and the mud slinging is reaching a fever pitch with Mike Gaskill going so far as to create a web site specifically to undermine the current administration and its plans by throwing about innuendo, half truths, and in some cases outright lies in his effort to do so.

http://www.madisoncountyalert.com

And Madison County, being what it is, has no shortage of individuals ready, willing, and able to pile on and whip the whole county into a frenzy of emotional turmoil; with little to no thought surrounding what should be done to ensure the future of the citizens of the county and the city of Anderson. In fact little to no constructive dialog surrounding any of the plans on the table is to be found. Instead, we get an endless stream of one-upmanship commentary from mostly both sides; and the whole while the city of Anderson and Madison County itself continues to decline.

The people of this city and county have to ask themselves a question; Do you want to be able to live here for the next 20 years or more, enjoying the county and city service levels you current have,( or heaven forbid improved levels of service), or do you want to see those service levels slashed even further?

Your answer should dictate your position on both of these "plans". The rest of this is nothing more than flotsam!

It would behoove all elected officials to remember that you work for us and at our discretion. Stop the political games and get busy with the jobs you were elected to do.

(Sorry Ex. I was not trying to answer for her. This post came as a direct result of my personal frustration with Madison County politics.)

And now the state and federal alphabet soup groups are delving into the proposal.

Seems this may be something that will become a reality within the next 5-10 years. . .  :spooked:

LOL...that's awesome!

If the brains in Anderson build the lake they will fill it with shad and carp so nobody will fish the their private lake.

The project is going to be a mess, and if it actually goes forward it will be on the backs of the taxpayers and a limited group of rich folks will get even richer using them.  We've seen that same scenario played out again and again here in Indiana.  Think of the 69 project as one of the recent.  The road's already falling apart in places, but those on the in are making money hand over fist with land speculation - which is what that road was all about anyway.  It will be the same thing with this project.

IIRC, Pari's Brent had a house down by the river off Cincinnati Ave. that .gov - or someone using the auspices of .gov - bought from him ostensibly for flood plain reasons - .gov was buying everyone's house in that area - but now it appears that was being done to clear the way for the dam and reservoir.

Greater Indianapolis Metro area is going to need water and the current supplies aren't enough now, much less to sustain any further growth, so .gov or .biz is going to be looking for any feasible sites for large reservoirs and prolly has been for years.  (I know of a plan that has existed since the 50s or 60s for Pipe Creek up this way to be turned into a reservoir - that will also prolly come to fruition in the future.)  With Anderson becoming a relative ghost town and losing it's state political clout, I'd wager this reservoir idea to actually happen sooner than later.  It also has the added boon of flood control on the lower White River.

The real problems I see are crossing access and pollution.  The mall and surrounding area sits on several dumps and you have a junkyard and a GM dump site out east at Rangeline Road.  I'd also like to see what it would do to the archeological sites at Mounds.

I've canoed the river a multitude of times, including all the way from Nebo Road to Perkinsville, and there are some beautiful stretches of river from Muncie to Anderson with some fantastic wildlife, including blue herons, which also might present problems for the plan.

I don't know if I have an opinion for or against it as yet.
