How it's to be developed is one reason I'd really like to see a detailed plan.  Without that, it's going to be hard to assess any positive economic impact outside of available water.

I suspect state government sees Anderson as a lost cause.  I'd really like to see an honest population count because I'd just about lay money Anderson proper has barely 20 - 30k left and that's going to be a prime factor I think.

I haven't been out that way, but from what I gather from talk is that Chesterfield's plant is north of 32 but I don't know if it's on the low ground by the river or up on the higher ground towards the veterinary clinic.  I would assume it's on the high ground due to flood concerns so it shouldn't be a problem.

I think the environmental concerns are where the big problems will lie.  If we have another scorching summer then this project will start moving forward like a steamroller.

I think the fact Anderson property values, including commercial property, have gone in the toilet also makes this project feasible.  Property owners will be glad to take their money and run to a better climate.

A water emergency this summer will do the deed.  I think that the annexation was why this project was leaked.  Personally, I think that in light of the reservoir project the annexation makes perfect sense for the future of Anderson.  Create the reservoir and move the city proper to the southwest along the 69 corridor where all the development is happening anyway.  Anderson would then end up swallowing Lapel and Pendleton and become the metro area for Madison County which would mean increased economic development on the order of what has happened to Fishers and Noblesville.  The economics of it certainly would help the area.

The thing meets too many needs that really don't have anything to do with Anderson, and Anderson is too far down the tubes, so this is the perfect storm.

Just as soon as this is set in concrete, I thoroughly suspect the annexation will see another go round and will pass and then plans for Anderson proper to move southwest will surface.

Anderson doesn't present anything resembling viability for new business unless they annex to the southwest.  There are several areas from which to draw traffic away from Marion and Hamilton counties if Anderson gets that done and it will make those businesses interested.

I expect the northern two-thirds of the county to slowly fade back into sleepy farming communities and the county's southwest 69 corridor to become really active.

I just read that article for the first time today after seeing it discussed on this forum for days now.  The one thing that jumped out at me was this sentence:

"The idea was first suggested by Ricker Oil Co. President and CEO Quinn Ricker during a Leadership Academy of Madison County class in 2010. Sparks was also a participant in that class."

Now we all know that no oil company CEO is going to have an idea of his own unless he can make money on it.  How would Ricker benefit from the development of the reservoir?

He owns several convenience stores in town and one in Chesterfield.  Not sure about other properties he may own.

Does he own the Lemon Drop Drive In and Marina?

I don't think so, last I knew he only owns practially all the gas stations and convenience stores in and around Anderson. Heck, the Lemon Drop might do even better if it was lakeside, all those fishermen could drive their boats up and get lunch!

Is the food good there?  ;D
They have what you might call a cult following.  I tried it once thought it pretty much sucked and haven't been back since.  I mostly went to support a fellow realtor and he happened to be in there cooking the day I was there.  That may have been the problem.....LOL

Skating on the réservoir? I doubt it.

More than likely there will be so many people drowning from such an activity, they'll write tickets for anyone venturing out onto any ice that may form there. . .

Depends on what you are looking for. It really is a 50's diner. I don't think the menu has changed since it opened except they don't have malts anymore. Their onionburger was voted best in Indiana. I like their ham sandwiches and fries. If you go at lunch or dinner time you will have to wait for a table. The waitresses never write down your order and I have never had them mess up my order.

I am not sure, but I think the only people who owned it were Jack Lemon, and Bill Pitts. Another guy had it for awhile but he was making a mess of it and it went back to Mr. Pitts.
