I just wonder if GE's CEO who is buddy buddy with Obama, in fact he's the head of the council on jobs, moved jobs overseas and paid NO taxes this year and FB CEO who is also buddy buddy with Obama and paid NO taxes this year are included in the list of people these guys hate.  Oh, and on a side note GE was the recipent of some of that stimulus money too.

A CNN analysis of thousands of pages of Congressional expense reports shows that in the months leading up to the fiscal cliff (and potential, sharp budget cuts), nearly a quarter of the lawmakers in the House of Representatives gave their own office staff bonuses. . .

Only a handful of members of Congress gave us statements defended the bonuses last quarter. Rep. Mike Thompson, D-CA, wrote, "have a hard working, dedicated team... and I want to pay a salary that reflects their service."

He said he only gives bonuses if there is "money left over" at the end of the year.

Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart, R-FL, responded, "The small compensation reflects an increased workload each person had to take on after our staff was downsized because of budgetary cuts."

Similarly, Rep. Dennis Ross, R-FL insisted that the bonuses allowed him to save money. "I believe performance-based pay is an important incentive in the workplace... Also, in the past year we've reduced our staff... The bonuses are to reward those remaining for taking on additional duties," he said . . .

So, while they may have cut staff levels, they increased the salaries of those remaining; in direct conflict with their supposed desire to "cut" the spending mantra. . . And surprisingly (not) in direct conflict with what happens in the business world when such things happen; increased workload, no raises, and longer hours.

You know, I wish I could buy a gallon of milk for 10 cents, a gallon of gas for 15 cents, and prime cut beef for a nickel a pound, but those days are gone. They have been gone and to expect them to return and to be able to provide sustenance to my family on a budget created 70 years ago is unrealistic. Same goes for government.

Yes it may be historically high, but so are our responsibilities, our population, our infrastructure, and the costs.

I just told you that the current sequester will result in 11,000 jobs being eliminated in civilian military support positions in this state alone. Education funding will instantly drop by 13.8 million in this state. And as you are so fond of pointing out, the "trickle down" impact of these losses alone will multiply the job losses exponentially, resulting in even more job losses, foreclosures, and yes, homelessness; and that is just within this state. Multiply that by 50 and see what you get.

Eliminate unemployment compensation beyond 26 weeks and you fast track the homeless aspect of this insidious path the GOP is hell-bent for leather upon forcing us down.

I just want to add (and maybe it was covered in your description of the "trickle down effect)", but they're not considering the negative impact of the ripple effect to the economy as nearly 2 million federal employees plan for furlough. I think I heard a figure of 880,000 federal employees, but I could be wrong. They're not buying. They were told a month ago not to purchase homes, cars, big ticket items. They were told to save as much as they possibly can until the furlough takes effect. Most will not be eligible for unemployment because of the way the furloughs are structured so that they only lose two days a pay period. While it's not as devistating as losing a job, it will cause problems with meeting financial obligations for quite a few. I suspect some may be able to find part time jobs, but w/the large numbers of employees being impacted in concentrated areas...good luck.

Yup! Some of the folks around here seem to think its no big deal to get a friggin job these days. They are wrong, of course but then either they've grown fat and sassy in their current role, taking it for granted, or they do not really want/need a job in the first place. Either way they are completely out of touch with the reality that is the job market today. They're going to require Devine intervention when reality comes to backhand them across the chops though. 

And if they got their way there would be millions more out of work, and homelessness would be 1000 times worse than it is at the moment.
