Very sad, I have played with fractal generators since the mid-80s. I used to generate fractal landscapes for a flight simulator and then fly through them.

Here is a link to a cool site ....

http://www.fractalsciencekit.com/

That's pretty cool.  Thanks for posting that.  I saw this yesterday, but just got around to checking out the link this afternoon.

Fractals. I looked at the site, and wish I knew enough about the subject to ask an intelligent question, but I don't.

It's all about recursion.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Recursion

Section 4.3 of that article describes "functional recursion" and is exactly the example I used to demonstrate that to my class.  It states:

"Functional recursion

A function may be partly defined in terms of itself. A familiar example is the Fibonacci number sequence: F(n) = F(n − 1) + F(n − 2). For such a definition to be useful, it must lead to non-recursively defined values, in this case F(0) = 0 and F(1) = 1.

F(0) = 0 and F(1) = 1 are terminating conditions (non-recursively defined values as the article states) and thus would prevent an infinite loop from occurring in a program.  ;D  That exactly describes what I was demonstrating to my class that day.

Sorry for the recursion sidebar in the :reap: HARVESTED :reap: thread, but I could talk about mathematics and computation for days and never get bored.  ;D

What a shame. My wife worked at his law firm, so I met him on several occasions. He was the nicest person you would ever want to meet.

He was one of my favorite NFL coaches.  Always gave a fun interview.   RIP Bum  :(

That's a weird story.  Complications from liver transplant surgery.  His family said he didn't drink and believes his liver problems started with a botched gall bladder operation 25 years ago.
