That's awesome ME!  I am very jealous of most of the people on here.......I am STILL waiting on a grandkid!
Each one is special but the first one is super. I have been able to be in the delivery room for some of them and that is such an awesome feeling I don't know how to describe it.

I am happy to share with my zone family that I have received a nice promotion at my current place of employment.  I have assumed more responsibility and now have control of my Dept.  This is something I have wanted for quite some time now, but never pushed for it.  It is nice to be recognized finally.

I have had some outside offers, that motivated them, and I am still considering my options, but I am enjoying life all the better for now.....and it may prohibit me from joining in the conversations here due to being extremely busy, making some new changes, and adjusting a few things, but I am still checking in.

Yesterday, we put my 87 year old father in the nursing home. It is one of the nicest ones in our home town. He was there in August for rehabilitation and did well but in the past month he has gone down hill physically, mentally, he is still sharp as a tack and had a nurse who he taught in school and he told her that. Granted, he hadn't seen this nurse in 50+ years but recognized her immediately. I know some will judge us for putting him in a nursing home but my stepmom and my siblings are not capable of taking care of him nor am I. We know this is his final journey he has on this earth and it was a decision that he made. He also requested no artificial means to sustain his life, no DNR and a living will to honor those wishes. I think how lucky I have been to have had him for 50+ years and all the lessons he has taught me and still continues even during his last days. If I can be half the person he is in life and pass that onto my kids, I will be successful as a person and a parent.
Sorry I am so late to respond to this, but have been swamped lately...but as you know I recently went though a similar situation, but we were fortunate enough to let my Dad PASS as he so very much wanted....we were facing the same scenario as you.....do NOT beat yourself up.  I know that everything you do, is full of love for your Dad...and that is all he expects.

Thank you HH, I know you went through this. Right now, he is satisfied being in the nursing home and plenty of family, friends, and church members go to see him. I go as much as I can.

AHH!  The 'Dilbert Principle' at work!

"In the Dilbert strip of February 5, 1995, Dogbert says that "leadership is nature's way of removing morons from the productive flow". Adams himself explained,[1]

I wrote The Dilbert Principle around the concept that in many cases the least competent, least smart people are promoted, simply because they're the ones you don't want doing actual work. You want them ordering the doughnuts and yelling at people for not doing their assignments—you know, the easy work."

Law of Logical Argument - Anything is possible if you don't know what you are talking about.  ;)

"You've probably noticed that opinion pollsters go out of their way to include as many morons as possible in surveys ... I think it's dangerous to inform morons about what their fellow morons are thinking. It only reinforces their opinions. And the one thing worse than a moron with an opinion is lots of them." -- Scott Adams

In other words: Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.  ;)

"It is difficult to get a man to understand something when his salary depends upon his not understanding it." -- Upton Sinclair

"Hitler is gone, but if the majority of our fellow citizens are more susceptible to the slogans of fear and race hatred than to those of peaceful accommodation and mutual respect among human beings, our political liberties remain at the mercy of any eloquent and unscrupulous demagogue." -- S. I. Hayakawa

I'm hoping this isn't true, but can't find anything to the contrary.  An Indian woman gave birth at age 72.   :spooked:  She had in vitro treatments for two years and now she and her 79 year old hubby are the proud parents of a boy.  Why would a fertility clinic even allow this?  She's supposedly the second woman over 70 to give birth.

Personally, I think it is extremely selfish to have a child at that age.  How in the hell are they going to keep up with a toddler?  When the boy turns five his dad will be 84 and mom will be 77.   Will his parents even be around when he is 10?  15?   I can't imagine what kind of life that child will have.  I know there is no guarantee that a younger parent will be around to watch their child grow up, but there is a lot more chance of that happening than for this couple.
