Abby, I could write a book, but won't -- at least not here, not now. As you're already discovering, you, as a soon-to-be single woman, will be treated differently, by men and women, friend and foe, and judged. It will be harder to fit in with couples socially, even with your own family. Stay away from those who judge or make you feel uncomfortable. It helps to make new friends, at work and socially. The best thing I ever did, when it happened to me, was to respond to former high school classmates when they began talking about reunions. They sought me out -- I reluctantly responded, and it changed my life. I am now in touch with people I've known since grade school. We live all over the country, brought together by the internet. One couple, on finding both their spouses had passed away, also found they both lived in Florida, kept in touch, and before we knew it, they were a couple. Living together when convenient (they both kept their own condos), but not marrying. For years now they've been having a big once a year cook-out for all of us over in Athens, WV, their summer home.

Thanks for sharing, Libby.  That's a neat story.

One of my many jobs as an administrative assistant at the library is to research certain items that we buy.  We're going to purchase a doorbell for our reference department so that when the frontline reference person has too many patrons to help, they can buzz the reference office for help with just a push of a button.  I look at the reviews to help make a more informed decision.  I liked this one:  When they say 100 ft range they must mean in an open field on a windless day, with zero sunspot activity, a brand new battery, and no radios, phones, electronics, small children, airplanes, or large insects within your zip code. If you plan on putting the bell on the outside of the door (duh...) and the receiver on the inside of the door (duh... again) good luck on having it reach more than 10 feet.

Reading those kind of reviews makes my job much more entertaining!

I became a great grandma for the 8th time today and my oldest daughter is now a grandma. 9lbs 1.4oz 20in long. I'll post a pic as soon as I get one. Grandson and his wife don't want a pic posted yet so I didn't take my camera 'cause I didn't want to take the chance of being tempted to post on fb.....New parents and baby were doing fine when I left the hospital.  :smitten: :smitten:

Nothing more precious in this place as a grandchild. While I have 10, soon to be 11 grandchildren, I have not achieved the "great" grandparent status yet. . . But I expect to do so within the next 5 years or so. We have a grandson turning 18 with a hot girlfriend and a granddaughter that is turning 19, in college, and hormonal as hell. She is a religious zealot though so there is that. . .

Congrats, Me.
I am not grandma status yet but then we were in our 30's when we adopted both of our kids. My dad has 5-6 great grandkids, I don't honestly know how many. I am sure soon, my niece and husband will announce they are expecting. My stepmom has about 20 grandkids and probably as many great grandkids. Most of my high school friends but 3-4 of us have no grandkids.

Thanks everyone. I've been hangin' out at the hospital quite a bit.  :smitten:
