Agnes Fenton just celebrated her 110th birthday.  For the past 70 years she's had three beers and a shot of whiskey every day.  Hmmm.

Hmmm .... I wonder if she's related to George Thorogood?

Long, long ago (when I worked at the hospital) there was a doctor or two who when they had an older person with poor appetite would prescribe a "tonic" (one ounce of whiskey) for them half hour before meals. Those people never missed their "tonic". I often wondered what happened when they went home and found out what they had been taking.  :)    Some doctors would also have a nursing mother drink one beer a day to help them produce more milk. Never did figure out the connection of that one.

110-Year-Old Woman Credits Longevity to ... Miller High Life?

If you want to live as long as Agnes Fenton, you're going to have to make some lifestyle changes — namely, adding Miller High Life to your diet. (If you already drink Miller High Life on a daily basis, this may be the first time someone's ever told you you're on the right track.)

The Englewood, New Jersey woman, who turned 110-years-old on Saturday, spoke with The Record about being a "supercentarian" and reflected on the art of aging gracefully. After all, she's basically a lifestyle guru  — Fenton told ABC in 2005 that she drank three beers and a whiskey every single day for over 70 years on her doctor's recommendation.

A woman I used to work with said when she lived in Pearisburg, VA she worked for the local doctor, and on Fridays, after all the patients had been seen, he would say, "Ok, let's all go out and get drunk and sterilize our guts!"

My Grandfather, (R.I.P.),  always looked forward to the annual, end of summer arrival of the rest of my family at the farm. Each year my dad would bring him 4 bottles of "Early Times Whiskey" at the end of summer arrival.

And from that point forward, until the whiskey ran out, my grandfather would awaken each day and go straight into the kitchen to retrieve one bottle of that whiskey. He wold open the cap, and pour himself a shot of it, which he would immediately down; followed by a hot cup of black coffee.

That was his daily routine and he called the whiskey his "tonic".

Grandpa lived to 74 years of age. He also smoked Prince Albert tobacco, which he rolled into cigarettes throughout the day. (Which is what gave him the cancer of which he expired).

My 92-year old Mother-In-Law eats bacon on a weekly basis.  She uses lard to fry EVERYTHING in.  She uses fresh eggs.  Never uses sugar substitutes....always pure sugar.  Her sweet tea is SWEET TEA!  (it is GOOOD though.... ) She is sharp as can be...still cooks every chance she gets....and I LOVE nearly everything she fixes.....

She is a wonderful lady I might add... :smitten:

Palehorse, your grandfather sounds a lot like mine. He also lived to be 74 and would fix a tonic, chewed Mammoth Cave twist chewing tobacco!

This is a good day to chill out at home. I went out earlier to pick up a few necessities (like ice cream) and heard on my car radio that there's a 20 mile back-up on I-95 south, beginning at the exit nearest my home, and pretty much the same on Route 1, which runs parallel to I-95.
