Don't know if I should reveal this or not (might ruin my image -- bullcrap alert), but I wasn't into the drug scene back in the day. There was war, loans from undergrad and grad school to pay back, and a new family to support. Not much time left for personal experimentation, to say the least.

(Warning -- here comes the caveat) I did have many friends who crashed at my place and gave me some rather graphic descriptions. Not empirical evidence, mind you, but not bad for anecdotal stuff.

So that isn't what "Crystal Blue Persuasion" was all about? Crap, next you'll tell me "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" has nothing to do with hallucinogenics.

Maybe. Maybe not ....

From what I know (granted not a lot but I do know who Tim was)  :spooked:, acid was placed into sugar cubes, saccrine "pills", blotter paper, and the like and allowed to dry. Then sold in those forms.

Hashish came in a variety of forms, but typically the cakes were wrapped in tin foil as well. (Stck pin through cardboard and a water glass anyone?)

PCP, angel dust, etc. was sold in tin foil packets that contained the powder. Heroin was sometimes sold in this manner as well, except for the black tar variety.

Coke came in "seals"; tiny envelopes made from a coated paper and folded.

How the heck do I know all this?

The alley across from the side entrance to my high school was where the freaks converged each morning before class. You could buy anything you wanted there, and the pot smoke was THICK coming from that place every morning. . . There were a LOT of freaks in that high school, and if you needed to find someone that was the FIRST place to look for them- jock, greaser, or freak!

Back then "the man" wasn't so mental about busting a bunch of small time users and pushers. (There were a ton of both everywhere in Chicago). Before the "war on drugs" was even a glimmer in the feds eyes. . . Heck a lot of the big time dealers were cops back then!

Whether a user or not, you spent a lot of time around the stuff if you needed to talk to anyone in school. That alley was "off school property" in those days before "school zone" laws, and most high school kids felt safe there. . .

Methamphetamine - and LSD - has been around for a long time, much longer than people think.  Along with LSD, it was also a drug used back in the day. (but I wouldn't really know about Blacks or Sandoz or anything like that - giving my best 'innocent' look    )

Thanks for doing my research for me. I appreciate that. Spend a buncha time researching everything else, but I didn't allocate any for that particular subject.

Ah hell, palehorse, this sounds way too much like "I don't know, personally, but my friends say..." I used to start lots and lots of sentences that way, back in the day.

Thank you. I had a college roommate who could sleep anytime, anywhere. I distinctly remember her snoring faintly after doing a little crystal back in 1971. We were ALL impressed!

Maybe. Maybe not ....

Spin, spin, spin. You may make me believe that Tommy James was not extolling the virtues of speed, and I may accept that "Hey, Jude" started out as "Hey Jules" to encourage a little guy whose parents were splitting up, but NOTHING YOU CAN SAY will make me believe Lucy is not in the Sky with Diamonds because of some rather nice LSD. Because I've seen her.

Here's a random comment for you...

I went to Symphony On The Prairie Saturday...they were doing the music of Queen with a band and vocalist in addition to the orchestra.  It's a very cool venue and it freakin' rocked!  I'd never been before but will definitely be going to more shows next year.
Arguing with Christians is like playing chess with a pigeon.  No matter how good I am at chess, the pigeon is just going to knock over the pieces, shit on the board and strut around like it's victorious.

The truth is slow, but relentless. Over time it becomes irresistible.

I hear that! I've been there several times myself and their 4th of July shows are outstanding!
