Dude! I was thinking about this very thing today!

Naw, I wasn't there but I bought the music and lived the aftermath with a lot of friends who were. I was 12 so there was no way I was going. Several of my school-mates had parents that took them though!

I was very surprised to learn Wavy Gravy is still sucking air!

I hesitate to tell you this, because it really dates me -- I was there.

Not a very long distance from where I lived at the time. Had finished my undergrad paper chase, a short stretch in the service (million-dollar wound), and hadn't started grad school yet.

(If you want to figure out how old I am, do the math .)

Music was (and still is, to a lesser degree) a LARGE part of my life.

Was a wet and wonderful time. And, no, I did not eat the purple owlsleys.

I thought it was the brown acid that was "not, specifically, too good."

I designated my daughter to be in charge of the recycling. She gets to keep the money and all she has to do is serve as a reminder to me when I accidentally throw a recyclable away and help me take it to the recycling center.

Well, today was the day and she earned just under $17.00. Normally, she gets somewhere between $25 and $30. (We go once a month). At any rate, I was pondering why she didn't make as much this time and she said, "less glass" and I said, "Ya think?" and she said "yeah, you need to drink more Corona".

...well...okay...if you insist.

In Bethel there was a constant litany of various substances that made the "do not ingest" list. Not the least of which was some of the food.

Brown was the one that made the "hit" list, so to speak.

Umm. . . wasn't that the window pane?

I think brown got so famous because it was the one being announced when the first film clips of Woodstock were released to the media.

I wasn't a serious participant in the use of psychedelics, so I didn't pay a great deal of attention to the ranking of various substances.

Must say, though, that it is amusing that an ergot fungus on rye (that sounds a little like a sandwich you'd order in a delicatessen, doesn't it?) could have caused so much interest.

Is that the same thing as blotter acid?

followsthewolf

If I remember correctly, the same base formula was used for all acid; the only difference was the medium that was used to carry it.

The different names came from those media. Of course, the content of the LSD was corrupted frequently by the care used in the manufacture and the sterility (or lack thereof) of the aforementioned media. (Media were needed because of the very small dose needed -- 50 mikes or so, if memory serves. Please feel free to correct me.)

The effects of "bad acid"; i.e, a "bad trip" was also dependent on the set and setting of the experience. ("Set" means mind set, and "setting" means the physical surroundings of the individual dropping it.)

It was also dependent on the carrying medium....e.g., talcum powder or crystal meth, or rice paper. I remember a lot of strange crap being marketed as fashionable drugs, as well. For example, animal tranquilizer, or belladonna.

(Crystal meth didn't exist back then. Amphetamines did; i.e., Black Beauties, etc.)

And yep, there was a lot of dangerous stuff being touted, as well as huge scams, like smoking banana peels  .

So that isn't what "Crystal Blue Persuasion" was all about? Crap, next you'll tell me "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" has nothing to do with hallucinogenics.

Would never tell you that about Lucy.
