I believe that this country is MUCH more conservative than certain powers-to-be want americans to think..........Gay marriage could not even get passed in the liberal paradise of California....

and another thought................it took President Bush 8 years to give us the largest debt in decades......and THAT is nothing to be proud of...........but it only took Obama 4 months to QUADRUPLE that.....and we STILL have....43 months to go

You're forgetting how big California is and you're stereotyping the entire state based on a false assumption that it is a "liberal" paradise.

I have NOT forgotten how big Cali is..........but, it IS well-known for it's liberal laws and views.....I don't think it is a false assumption or even stereotyping.....but one thing IS true, that those to the center and right, have spoken...I just thought it was interesting.....

Heck, maybe I am sterotyping and assuming...but, it is my random comment for the day.

Henry, what on earth does it matter to the "right and center" if gay folks get the civil benefits of marriage? Ive never gotten an answer to that question that made a lick of sense from anyone, but you generally have a pretty good way of looking at things, even if we dont agree.

Well, I'm probably not going to tell you anything new, but those that lean to the right, ususally are more of a Christian valued voter....and they take Marriage as an important part of a moral society, and value it as a union between a man and a woman...it will be argued till the end of times between the left and the right...one of them issues that are clearly seen by both sides as absolute, right or wrong....I just found it interesting that California, known as a strong BLUE state, voted against Gay marriage.

so let it be a church entered state, and either the gubment can wash its hands of the whole affair, or just issue civil unions to everyone wishing to make a legal union. (which is actually where I think this whole fight will end up 50 years from now)

I found it interesting that the vote as so tight, par-tick-you-lerly when so many cults seem to have such a strong opinion on the matter and invested so much time and money into the campaign.

Well I think someone needs to wear a dress at the wedding. and get nails and hair done, and carry flowers.  And the bachlorette party, someone has to wear the cheesy veil all night, get blasted and barf in the car all the way home.  When you think about all the traditions, gay marriage just isnt a good idea.  Leave out the religion, and just use common sense.

Actually, Gay marriage would probably be GREAT for the economy.......(stereotypically speaking)...they can probably throw a pretty extravagant wedding....

You're onto something...
I've been to a dozen weddings in the past three or four years, and all told, end up spending at a minimum $400 to attend (by the time you account for gifts, travel) and as much as $1500 (for a wedding that required a flight, two nights hotel, and a rented tux). Both myself and my wallet are weddinged-out. I vote no on allowing anyone else to do it, and would also like to encourage legislation limiting every person to one marriage per lifetime, make null and void any marriage performed more than 100 miles from the hometown, and forbid the registration of any gift costing more than $40.

Of course, such legislation should also mandate an open bar at all receptions, and place severe penalties on anyone whose wedding DJ plays the Electric Slide.

Gryphon

ya know Im wondering now just how much a typical wedding stimulates the economy? I was kinda joking before, but when you think about all the gifts, the honeymoon, the folks who travel in for the service, etc. it's a big darn number.
