We're going to watch the Opossum drop, at midnight on TV Land. There doing a Beverly Hillbillies marathon. At midnight the Opossum, slides down the pole,  and drops ringing in the new year.  :rolleyes:

We raised a baby one in our house for several months, and I never did see Petunia play dead. Do they really play dead? I've never seen one do it.  :smile:

i had one try to eat my face off when i found it in the under-the-sink-cabinet... it wasn't interested in playing dead... lol... i was like, "damn, you fierce!"  lol.

Most people don't realize it, but Opossums are very docile creatures.  :yes: They are very laid back. It would take a lot to anger one, and I've never seen one get angry. We have about 10 or 15, that come here to my house at night. They're always well behaved, but they scare very easily. They get along very well with Pugsly, and the cats. They sit and eat out of the food dish with the cats. They look scary as hell the first time you see them. The first time I came across one out on my deck, it scared me sooo bad, I screamed, ran back in the house, almost shit my pants, and had a heart attack.  :spooked: Needless to say... I freaked out!!! But, I'm much better now.  :wacko:  Anywho..... They're real pretty up close, unless they open their mouths real wide. They have 2 rows of very sharp, jagged teeth, that I'm sure they could do serious damage with.  :spooked:

Yeah, they do, but only when they are terrified to the point where they are convinced their teeth and claws won't be an adequate defense. Usually, though, they'll just claw and bite the he!! out of whatever is stupid enough to bother it.  :biggrin: :biggrin: :biggrin:

Actually, I saw an Opossum play dead once. I had gone into our basement where our wood furnace was for something and I saw it's eyes first.  I thought it was a huge rat. I called mom who ran out there w/a poker and it just plopped right over. She picked up the box it was resting in (which was piled w/paper and loose stuff to help w/the fire) and tossed it outside. Later that day, it was gone.

Teeth versus poker...hummm... smart Opossum  :biggrin: Honestly, I think had it been a rat, it would have been a goner, but she had her chance with the Opossum and let it go.

I've heard they can be mean when provoked.  :spooked: I wouldn't want to piss one off that's for sure.  :biggrin:
