lol (in a cleanliness way)

The ER was a great place to see the dregs of humanity wonder in and out. I remember a crackhead who was passed out in one of the beds when I got there one morning. This guy had HIV and HepB, and was "selling his services" to other men to buy crack. 25 years old. Nice.

wow.

i was in the ER a few months back, early evening on a friday...

within hours there were ppl coming in "needing" painkillers... "oh, i fell."  "i twisted my back."  all sorts of excuses...  while i sat there declining morphine, i overheard a girl say "geez, i'll take it."

don't threaten me with a good time.

the best is when they tell you which one works. "Morphine won't work, and fentanyl won't work, but dilaudid does the trick." Uh-huh. Here's some torodal. Enjoy.

i'm supposed to be allergic to torodol... but i don't know if i believe that...

morphine gives me migraines when it's wearing off... and cotton mouth to beat all hell.

it's never been the pain that's bothered me.  it's the fact that there's something wrong with me.

torodal is just a big NSAID. If you can take ibuprofen, I'd think you can take torodal.
Morphine makes lot's of people sick. It could give headaches because it causes vasodilation, kind of like nitro gives a headache.

(allergic to NSAIDs)

painkillers are just a bandaid...  fix it and the pain stops.

Sometimes, but.... The vasodilation of morphine can help patients having a heart attack by allowing blood past a partial blockage and reduce the demands on the heart by doing away with the sympathetic pain response, which ups BP and makes the heart work harder. It can also help patients with pulmonary edema by allowing some of the fluid out of the lungs and back into the vasculature. Some narcotics have multiple actions, not just pain relief.

they are good in that sense--the other uses.  as painkillers, i don't really believe in them.  (there is a RX addict or two in my family...)  i'd rather suffer than turn into that.

I agree. I think the only time I've used pain medicine is after knee surgery, and only to get some sleep. Never during the day. I'd rather be awake and hurting then to have that disconnected feeling that painkillers give.

me too...

i only took the painkillers right after surgeries... no more than 2 days.  i kept telling myself, "at least i can feel it--pain is better than numb."

I wonder which one was the magical 100,000th post

about pain killers.  I need them. damn teeth.  I settle for Aleve, or 'like' Aleve.  Can you get addicted to those?  The only difference I ever feel is the pain dissipates.
Looks like I've come full circle.

~vxn~

i think that a lot of addiction is psychological... aleve aren't anything that major, i think you'll be ok taking those.

i had taken darvocet since i was 7 for knee surgeries and it was all over the tv that ppl were addicted to them.  i never was.

(mouth pain is THE worst kind... )
