Here in Illinois when a couple gets divorced, they have to take a mandatory parenting class. The reason for it, is so they don't pit the kids against the other parent. They learn not to say derogatory stuff about the other parent etc. My boss got divorced 4 months ago, her and her ex had to complete the course, before the judge would grant the divorce. Illinois has some of the strictest laws on everything.

Yep,  that's how it is in Indiana. All 3 of us - including Lil BEG had to attend classes before our divorce was final.

I thought that's the way it was here. But we didn't do it.  My dad and his ex had to do it when they got divorced back in 94/95......I kept waiting for the instruction to attend for our divorce, but it never came.  A lot of stuff never happened that I had always heard about when it comes to divorce. Now I'm going to have to take his butt back to court to straighten a lot of things out.  I guess we didn't have to go to the course/class, because we were already in family counseling?
Looks like I've come full circle.

Yeah - I bet that is the reason, Pari. Because ours was court order. No class - no divorce. Mr Kokomo and Mr Fishers had to go to class too in their home counties.

I had to do it, too. Really, all it was was a few hours of "dont talk bad about your ex in front of your kids," and a bunch of videos of mom's doing some poor acting of dad-bashing. Yawn.

LOL my kids do enough dad bashing on their own. I'm wondering just how much mom bashing they do over there.

I know a couple that just got divorced, and didn't have to take the class. If the child is an infant, you don't have to because they don't  absorb as much, of whats going on around them. I don't know if I quite agree with that or not.

Funny, this very topic came up earlier at the game.

Well, I advocate for ALL parents being mandated to take parenting classes throughout the years...not just when the parents divorce. Or as Steve & DC were talking about yesterday, getting limaze classes during the pregnancy.
