Our new mayor is calling for 20% cuts in all departments across the board. He states while he realizes some departments will be unable to do so because it would wipe them out, others can do more than this.

The unions are saber rattling and the entitlement gang of long term city employees are hand wringing.

Why does this surprise anyone? It has been a long time coming and is much needed. As the empty homes continue to multiply across this city, and businesses continue to shun it surrounding a target for relocation, measures have to be undertaken in order to reign in expenses. The tax revenue stream is no longer there to support business as usual!

You're all shaking you're heads yes and smiling.  But, do you think the roads in Anderson will get worse that they are now.

Just means the whole crew will be working instead of one or two working and 4 or 5 standing around watching like has been.  And think about it Troll if the payroll is too big the money isn't there for repairs anyway.

I glad we got an expert on road repair.  Fixing pot holes and laying hot black top in the hot days and hot sun.  Thank you Mrs. Know it all.  :haha:  :haha:

They probably could lay off a few Anderson cops.  From the looks of the arrest records in the paper, they are not working to hard.

Potholes, maybe. But as far as resurfacing goes they bid that out anyway.

I share the concerns of the mayor when it comes to the practice of borrowing from the city utilities office to make payroll the first half of th year each year; we are already paying high rates for water and electricity, and then we have to pay interest back to the utility offices on the millions we borrow from them to make payroll until the tax bill installments come in.

It's wrong and we have to streamline and live within our means.

I think the city of Anderson should get it touch with their man Mitch and see about all the money they misplaced and the $500 Million dollars he and his friend screw the towns and cities out of.

Anderson's share of that pie is supposed to be right at 1 million; not enough to tai scare of the first 6 months of payroll at current headcount levels.

20% cut.  This little story made me think of a buddy of mine.  He painted custom vans with the beautiful pictures on the sides.  He worked at GM and painted vans at night.

He must have sent to much time away from home, because his wife got to running around and sued him for divorce.  At the divorce proceedings her lawyer got up into his face and said, you are going to give her 50% of the gross of your painting business aren't you.  My buddy said yes.

After the trial was over my buddy when to his paint shop and met the men who work for him and they split up the inventory.  He said, as I lock the door on the empty building and walked away, I thought 50% of nothing is nothing.     :haha:

Well. . . now the mayor is calling for cuts in both police and fire departments.

I think the city needs to live within its means and if we cannot afford to pay all of these fire/police workers, then go they must!

You do realize that there are a large number of (ex) government workers currently unemployed; or don't you?

No, he doesn't realize that. The fact that he's completely out of touch w/reality (much like his political choices) shouldn't surprise you.

Isn't it amazing how the Republicans want to make everything private business.  Make government business private business where you have to pay a profit margin for it owners.  Like road for example, the private business can cut the quality of the materials and quality of work so they can make more profit off the taxpayers.  Then we have the idiots who don't want to pay any taxes.  It sure seem like a disaster to me.  Like Mitch Daniel's sale of our Toll Road.  Now that was a cluster fuck.  The money already spent and the companies who bought it can make money for another 70 years.     God damn Republicans.
