So The Colts sucked for Luck in 2011 - but the question is will they take him?

The Colts organization is notorious for going against the grain and mining the headcount out there for diamonds in the rough; and a little bird tells me that may be the case in the 2012 draft.

They've been scouting this guy for QB, and they may even trade a first draft pick for an unnamed player and a second draft pick and scoop him up :

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1005517-2012-nfl-draft-robert-griffin-iii-enters-draft-to-rival-andrew-luck-as-top-qb

Odds are that no matter who they pick for the QB position, they will more than likely be a bust.

I do know that the Hiesman Award winners who have been QB's have NOT had particularly GREAT NFL careers..

But, Bill Polian has had GREAT ability to pick well in the draft....

Starting with Manning, then first rounders such as Edgrin James, then Rob Morris, Reggie Wayne, Freeny, Clark, Sanders and Adai...All pretty darn good picks..

I still think Polian knows a thing or two about football.....I have confidence that who he picks will be the best for the Colts.

PH, I agree with you, I am not so sure that picking a QB in the draft will be the way they go.  But, if they do pick Luck, I'm betting this kid WILL pan out in a few years.

With their only prospect (current) for a new QB being Orlovsky, the Colts have no choice but to draft a QB, but I am betting that QB will not be Luck. (I could be wrong there).

My guess is they'll trade down for a wide receiver, (since Reggie is going to be gone), and choose Robert Griffin III as their QB prospect.

Griff may be the better choice.

I guess I still have faith in the Colts front office...I would LOVE to see Caldwell replaced by someone like Jeff Fisher.  Get a new look from the sidelines....someone who can do something with our special teams....someone who is a little more ballsy.

I also still have hope that Peyton will return and be back in form for three or four more years.

Rams coach Steve Spagnulo and general manager Billy Devaney are out and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers just fired coach Raheem Morris.

My guess is the Colts will stand pat, but one can always hope. . .

Colts owner Jim Irsay has called a 5:00 p.m. news conference. ESPN is reporting the Polians have been fired

Unless you have someone BETTER, (which I'm sure that is a short list) I think getting rid of Polian MAY be a BIG mistake.

But, I am ready for a change...Caldwell BETTER be on that list.

You want to talk about arrogant. the Polians had the market cornered in Indy. They are goners and the Colts will be better for it.

Caldwell, or rather Caldworse, is all but a goner. In fact I have a nice cold Guinness that says he's packing his stuff up as I write this. (Any takers?)

The question is, who will they replace him with? Gruden, (mistake - he's a run coach which means years of mediocrity), Cowher (maybe, but I hear he turned Miami down cold), or Fisher?

Fisher may be the choice. Despite his heading up the Titans and fueling the rivalry between them and the Colts, he all but bowed down at Manning's feet if you will recall.

If they have truly fired the entire coaching staff, then I already have the ideal person to fill the Offensive Coordinator position; and he's already under contract. Yeah, Manning. If the guy can not play any longer, then who better to fill the role, and once he gets his feet wet, fire Fisher and put Manning in the head coach role???

Another "rumor" I have heard was that Chris Polian, Bill's son, was an outright a-hole.  Bill has been giving him more and more of a leadership role, and has NOT been too well liked.

Also another rumor was that Manning and Polian had not gotten along well, ever since Manning got pulled when they was on the 14-0 winning streak ... Manning had some harsh words with him over that.

That's why both of them were fired. Leadership via attrition does nothing but leave the field strewn with broken relationships. And the field is 6 feet deep with the relationships the Polians slaughtered. They are out, and probably are going to find themselves jobless for quite some time because of it.

I still say Manning is finished as a player. I hate to say that, but I'd much rather see him coaching the Colts and mentoring a first round draft pick QB, than being carted off the field this fall paralyzed from the neck down. And lets face it, ANY qb prospect would flourish under the coaching of Manning.

I am not ready to accept any ill fate of Manning just yet.....I am an optimist!

I do like the idea of Manning becoming part of the Colts staff....AFTER...his playind days are done.

Let's hope he has a full recovery and is able to entertain Colts fans for a couple of more years....

But, I do agree with you on his ability to manage a young prospect to flourish...I think he would/will be an amazing coach.

One thing is for sure, WTHR's ratings are going to go up around 5PM this afternoon. Even though they are broadcasting the WInter Classic, it will not be hockey bumping those ratings in the Indpls market!
