Ex!  I know you are somewhat crazy, but are you crazy enough to do this?

Probably.  It's more difficult technically than parachuting off of a big bridge (which, of course, I've done) but it's also a lot higher.  The New River Gorge bridge is 876 ft.  Kjerag mountain, Norway is 3,640 ft. which gives you plenty of time to reach terminal velocity and fly away from the cliff before deployment.
Arguing with Christians is like playing chess with a pigeon.  No matter how good I am at chess, the pigeon is just going to knock over the pieces, shit on the board and strut around like it's victorious.

The truth is slow, but relentless. Over time it becomes irresistible.

I remember when a friend and I built a Benson Gyro Copter.  We  were flying it a Ace Airport in Anderson.  A couple of full dressed sky divers came up to us.  One of them said, "you sure wouldn't see me flying one of those things."      :spooked:

To which I said, "You wouldn't see me jumping out of a perfectly good and flying airplane, either.   :para:  :haha:

It is entirely possible that I was one of those people.  I learned how to skydive and made hundreds of jumps at Ace.

Ace Airport was sure a fun place to go.  They had a good sky diving club and have spent hours watching them jump.  I remember one guy, he had over a 100 jumps and on the 101 jump I watched him break his leg.   :o Just when he was about to land a gust of wind turned sideways and he landed on the side of his foot.  It sounded like, when you break a wooden slat over your knee.     We picked him up and put him in a car for a trip to the hospital.  Damn if he didn't jump with the cast on his leg three weeks later.

I also got my private pilot's license there.  I flew several airplanes there and then we built our gyro and spent many hours there flying it there.

I remember one day the wind was blowing about 35 miles per hour, straight down the runway from the West.  We could practically take off from a standing start and we could hover over the airport.  Going back and forth, left to right.  Good times.  But Ace in now gone.  Like so many other things in Anderson, Indiana.

Like so many things that can happen when you sky dive.  A pretty little blond girl was making her first dive.  She did everything perfectly until she was about to land.  She made a 180 turn, down wind and did a face and body plant on the hanger door.   :spooked:  She won a trip to the hospital, broken nose and two black eyes.  I never saw her up there again.   :'(

Why was a church interested in airport property?

I heard the plan was to develop the land on the other side of the street into some sort of big convention mecca and to use the airport for church members to fly into events.  I don't think any of that ever happened after their big investment fraud scandal.

The airport was a run-down, old, grass field airport that wasn't worth 1/2 as much as if corn or beans growing in it......Back in the day, it was a pretty neat little airport.......but it was getting pretty decrepit and looking pretty bad.
The Church of God bought it and built a big church that has several hundred that attend it.  I'm not a Church of God fan, but it was a good investment for them. I'm sure they got it at a good price.

Just another reason for churches to be taxed.

It's only a good investment if the property appreciates in value, and if there is enough in monthly offerings to make the mortgage payment.  ;D

It was said many times that at one time all of the rental property in Anderson was owned by General Motors and the Church of God.

It was also said the building that housed the big whore house was owned by the Church of God.     I must have paid good, for it was there for years.  :haha:

The main hangar could have used a coat of paint but aside from that it was fine.

QuoteI'm sure they got it at a good price.

I doubt that.  If it could have been gotten for a good price, we'd have bought it and people would still be jumping there now.  The COG would also have had to remove the leaking underground fuel tanks in which the avgas was stored.  The EPA had been on the property's owner for years and time was running out.
