Speaking of fuel pumps, my sister's boyfriend and I changed mine last year.  Dropping the fuel tank on a Ford Expedition is a real bitch.

I did just last June.  Why?
We had to have one replaced last week, very expensive.

You asked "Why would you put a fuel pump inside a gas tank"

I gave you the answer.

You're welcome.
I know why they do it, got the lecture from the repair guy, looked it up to see if he was blowing smoke. The thing is that it so much more expensive and difficult to replace than the mechanical pumps.

Everything is more expensive and difficult on modern cars. I once owned a 1965 Simca. I only needed a screwdriver and a pair of pliers to do almost all the work it needed. Today I don't even open the hood on a new car.

I would say and probably am wrong that the expense is due to cars being more computerized?

What really sucks is the pump doesn't really cost all that much it's the labor because of all they have to go through to install it.

It's a rainy, snowy Monday. I hate Mondays even on good days. She asked why they were inside the tank. I found the answer. And being grumpy as hell I took her question about replacing as snarky. I may be wrong but it's MONDAY! I mean ... she could have at least thanked me for finding the answer for her.

Okay!  I'm with ya!  I see you guys are getting hammered out there!  Hang in there

Not in the case of the fuel pump.  The expensive part is the labor because they have to drop the fuel tank from underneath the car to replace the pump.  Then they have to put it back.  ;D

Bingo.  My part was only $150.00 or so, but the labor would have been through the roof.  That's why I did it myself with the help of my sister's boyfriend whose alias is Mr. Goodwrench.   I never would have attempted that on my own.

Okay!!! I told you I would be wrong but thought maybe there was a sensor telling that something was wrong as it does with some cars on some things!

That smacks of something that could turn into a propaganda mouthpiece for his administration, and future administrations.
