Why would you put a fuel pump inside a gas tank! Ridiculous.

Google is a wonderful tool if you know how to use it!

The fuel pumps which were located outside of the tank in older cars were mechanical pumps, which were used on vehicles with carburetors. Since carburetors were later replaced with fuel injection, the mechanical pumps were replaced with electrical pumps since mechanical pumps can't produce the fuel pressure needed for injection.

The electrical fuel pumps are placed inside the tank for many reasons such as: the fuel cools the fuel pump during its' operation; to prevent fire from electrical component sparking up the vapor (liquid gasoline won't ignite by the spark); it also provides better fuel delivery to the engine by creating a positive pressure (pushing the fuel to the engine instead of mechanical pump pulling the fuel out of the tank).

One thing to remember though is don't consistently allow your vehicle to run at 1/4 of a tank or less because it will wear the pump out quicker.  Also, if you use the same place to refuel, find out what days they have their fuel delivered and don't fill up on those days because it stirs up the tank and you stand a chance of getting crap in your tank which will clog your filter quicker.

I'm going to get one of those and wear it to the tier 3 meeting !  :big grin:

I had to do it again today. . . Now they're just spewing the number 44 for no apparent reason than to see me do this!  :big grin:

Tier 1 asked me to attend their meeting this morning, (my staff and direct reports), and they asked me what I did in tier 3 yesterday. . . I told them then they wanted to see it. . . So I obliged.

It's funny, but also something I'm thankful for.

Replaced one lately?

You asked "Why would you put a fuel pump inside a gas tank"

I gave you the answer.

You're welcome.

But she just asked if you replaced one lately, I don't think she was being obtuse or anything, just asking you a quesiton.

It's a rainy, snowy Monday. I hate Mondays even on good days. She asked why they were inside the tank. I found the answer. And being grumpy as hell I took her question about replacing as snarky. I may be wrong but it's MONDAY! I mean ... she could have at least thanked me for finding the answer for her.
