That's a Wolf Spider! Beautiful animal! It will bite, but it's not any worse than a mild bee sting.

3 Ways Spiders Help Indoors

1. Spiders eat pests. Spiders feed on common indoor pests, such as roaches, earwigs, mosquitoes, flies and clothes moths. If left alone, spiders will consume most of the insects in your home, providing effective home pest control.

2. Spiders kill other spiders. When spiders come into contact with one another, a gladiator-like competition frequently unfolds – and the winner eats the loser. If your basement hosts common long-legged cellar spiders, this is why the population occasionally shifts from numerous smaller spiders to fewer, larger spiders. That long-legged cellar spider, by the way, is known to kill black widow spiders, making it a powerful ally.

3. Spiders help curtail disease spread. Spiders feast on many household pests that can transmit disease to humans –mosquitoes, fleas, flies, cockroaches and a host of other disease-carrying critters.

It was in the master bath.  No good could have come from that thing making it into the bedroom.  I would have been in the doghouse for months.  ;D

I love insects, spiders, and reptiles. And as long as they stay away from me they are free to roam about the country. If they don't, their journey will end badly for them.

I so agree!! I have always been told that black snakes kill posinous snakes that is why on the farm we left them alone and especially in the barn where they would kill copperheads and rodents. We were always super careful about getting tobacco sticks from the barn as a copperhead could be in them and so we would take one and tumble the rest of them!

Wonder what's up with all these, what seem to be military, jets going over lately.

This is the normal weekend of the annual Indianapolis Air Show, but  due to the federal government budget sequestration, it has been cancelled.  BUT, I did read there was going to be a "Fly-in" this weekend, with hundreds of private pilots flying in....so, there COULD be some exotic jets flying around, but I doubt thats what you guys saw or heard.
