His point is valid but unless they change the rules it will not happen. All Thoroughbred owners know that is the gamble they take. Many will skip the Derby and or the Preakness to aim for the Belmont especially if they can upset the game. My personal opinion is Chrome looked flat and a lot of 3 years are not strong enough or have the stamina to run 1.5 miles to win. It is asking a 6 year old to run. I personally think they shouldn't run until they are 4-5 when they are more mature and developed. Let's look at Secretariat, he didn't win a couple of races but won a stakes race to be entered into the Derby and the rest is history. There will never ever be another Secretariat, horses will be compared to him and all have but never another. I would have to say the 1973 race and the Affirmed/ Alydar duel were the greatest races in horse racing.

I thought the jockey made a fatal error in not running Cali up front out of the gate. Moreover, he allowed the horse to get behind 4 other horses against the rail, and by the time he got the animal to the outside the race was over.

The only reason for not running the triple crown the way Cali's owner suggests, is to make money for the Association. As with any other unfair situation surrounding "rules", one only has to follow the money to understand why things are the way they are.

You are right about one thing though; it takes an animal of extraordinary physical capacity to beat a field stacked with fresh animals that have not run the previous two races for the crown. Those are rare, and in fact it takes a "birth defect", such as those possessed by Secretariat and Sea Biscuit, to achieve such a feat.

Exactly and Secretariat after he died had an autopsy done on him he had a larger than normal heart. His heart allowed him to have the lung capacity to win. I do think the jockey made an error but if you put horse out too early in a race like that you will burn them out and they will lose. A 1.5 mile race for 3 year olds are tough on them.

Chrome got a cut on his leg coming out of the gate and that cut possibly, note I say possibly, ruined him from being a winner. Hard to say but cuts like that mess the nerves up on running. :(

He's done racing and can look forward to a nice life of gratuitous sex.  ;D

Here's a picture one of my friends took up in Central Florida today.  This is I-95 almost due east of Orlando.  He was on his way back from Jacksonville and took this picture of the nasty weather.

Meanwhile in South Florida, we had heavy rain, lightning, high winds, hail, localized flooding, and trees down.  We don't always have to have a hurricane to rock and roll here in Florida.  ;D

The trees down part I saw on the news.  Then I found one myself when I ventured out.

Wow! Stay safe!

Locutus

It's over for today, but it's supposed to be like this again tomorrow, and Friday.  It's forecast to calm back down a bit by Saturday.

Of course it makes sense.  The only people it wouldn't make sense to are the religious wingnuts who think he's really a Muslim anyway.

It doesn't surprise me one bit.  Not that I got anything against not going to church.  That is up to each person to decide.  But, I am not surprised by this info.
