On another front, I saw a picture of Bobby Hull at a suburban Chicago bar watching game 5. The guy has more hair than I do!  :rotfl:  And it is longer than my wife's! :rotfl: :rotfl:

Dude!

Hurt me!

The Caps aren't all that bad. They win their division and then die in the playoffs. But they are really fun to watch! IMHO, Mike Green is the best defenseman in hockey. And when Ovechkin and Backstrom are on the same page, they can put up the points!

Ice hockey is easier to follow than football, and more exciting to watch. I learned about it from my German husband, and have a scar between my eyebrows to prove it (we were going home from a game, years ago, when he missed a stop sign and I was the only one injured in the collision).

Commentary on recent events:

Paula Deen: Let me say up front, (as if I have to), I have ZERO tolerance for racists. None. Nada. Zilch. They should all burn. However, has anyone stopped to wonder just what the hell she is actually being crucified in a very public manner over?

Each of us changes within our lifetimes, some only a time or two, others many, many, times. As our life experiences teach us the lessons it has for us, we can either change or repeat the lessons. Our choice.

Deen has NOT been convicted of anything. In fact, thus far she is either guilty of stupidity or being too honest; take your pick. The law has not rendered judgment on her as of yet, and so legally she is innocent until proven guilty, right?

And yet, she is being publicly vilified for a "word" she uttered 30 years ago according to her testimony, and her income stream is shrinking by the minute; with corporate Amerika serving as judge, juror, and executioner of this woman and her life for nothing more than the utterance of a "word" and telling of some off-color and racist jokes that transpired 30 years ago. With NO legal adjudication transpiring as of yet.

If suddenly 25 years from now saying or writing "Nazi" becomes the new "N word" just how many of us reading this will be subjected to very similar treatment over the opinion of another human being who worked for us?

Aaron Hernandez: Hispanic professional football player for the (gag) Patriots, arrested and some hours later charged with murder. Yet, even before he is officially charged he is canned by those very same (gag) Patriots who up to the seconds after the local authorities snapped those bracelets on him, they thought enough of to pay him 40 million dollars over the next 5 years. . . Again, no legal judgment entered or even charges announced, yet he is canned forthwith.

Ausar Walcott: Rookie linebacker for the Cleveland Browns charged with attempted murder and summarily released by the very same Browns. He was in a strip club and based upon the accounts I read he encountered a knucklehead that had been harassing him, who once again began harassing him, so he proceeded to  punch him in the head and other places, in an attempt to adjust his attitude. Again, no conviction but none-the-less corporate Amerika cuts him loose.

What, aside from money, do all three of these situations have in common?

Corporate Amerika feeling empowered to try and convict these individuals despite the fact the body of our government legally empowered to do so having not yet executed the process.

Now granted, the two jocks have some serious charges pending, but what ever happened to innocent until proven guilty? Oh, that's right; it is a constitutional thing! And we all know that while corporate Amerika enjoys constitutional rights and the protections they provide, they do NOT have to operate in a manner that respects those very same rights of the individuals who work for them now do they?!

Not likely, but the thing I'd like to see happen in all three of these cases, is to have them all found not guilty by a preponderance of the evidence, and then see how long it takes for those same three to try to initiate legal action against their former employers/sponsors for wrongful termination. (Good luck with that though. Been there, done that).

Innocent until proven guilty, freedom of speech, life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. All three meaningless and less useful than toilet paper thanks to the SCOTUS.

Horse, I agree with your point except for one thing. If I recall, she has alluded to using the word on more than one occasion, once fairly recently. And she hired an all-black waiter staff for one of her functions. I can see how some might perceive a pattern here.

Did that actually transpire or was it what she wanted to do? I don't know if it actually happened, however in any case I assume those who were hired to dress the roles were compensated for their time and services, (if the event took place), and they had the opportunity to decline doing so if they felt it were derogatory or demeaning/offensive in any way. Didn't they?

Moreover, if I recall correctly, the more recent use of the terminology was within a private conversation between her and her husband; and while she freely admitted to same the last I knew that was constitutionally protected information. (She did ring the bell though).

In any case, she hasn't been convicted of anything as of this time; except within the "courts" of corporate Amerika and public opinion.

The thing is, it pains me to take a position that appears to be supportive of this woman. My personal opinion of her amounts to dislike and suspicion; none of which are legally actionable. However, this woman is being accused of sexual discrimination and racism, just like thousands of individuals that hold leadership positions within businesses throughout this country each and every day. And the overwhelming majority of them are concluded with an unfounded ruling based upon the evidence. What makes this case any different?

The bar of proof is high in these cases and the burden of proof rests upon the accuser, and yet we see corporate Amerika jumping to conclusions and rushing to judgment based upon their fear of public opinion and a need to protect the "brand" to avoid loss to the bottom line.

If any one of us were subjected to having our livelihoods taken away over a disgruntled former employee's allegations of similar conduct, how would you feel then?

And that right there, after all, is the saddest part of this situation. Unfortunately public opinion has taken over the very fabric of our culture. It wouldn't be so awfully bad if the public wasn't so damned stupid. A very good example of the lowness of public opinion is that the public elected George W. Bush - TWICE!
