Simply put, it is an outpatient surgery in which the the natural lens is extracted through an incision in the eyeball and an artificial lens is inserted through the incision.

It is usually recommended when, through age or injury or both, the natural lens becomes occluded, usually by cataracts.

I had both eyes done and am extremely happy with the results.

Went from approximately -9 to -11 diopters of refractive index in each eye to ~ -1.5.

My dad had that done recently and he described it as almost like having the lights turned on.  He said he never realized how bright everything was supposed to be until after he had that surgery.  He's pleased with the results as well.

I just may do that, I have a cataract on my good eye and everything has a yellowish color.  But as the blind newspaper salesman said in "Johnny Dangerous" when the truck delivery man hit him in the head with a bundle of newspapers, "I can see, I can see!"  I glad you  and other people has such a  good sauces.  :tiphat:

I wish you the best of luck, but you probably won't need it, since the success rate is very high.

You will probably be amazed at how it happens.

You get wheeled down the corridor to surgery with lousy vision, and you wake up being wheeled back with incredibly good sight.

At least that was my experience.

Is it general anesthetic or local?  I was under the impression my dad was awake for the whole thing, but maybe I'm wrong about that.

My surgeon required a general anesthetic to prevent unwanted eye movement.

I am unaware if there is even an option for a local, since we never talked about it.

Sounds good to me, I'll talk to my eye doctor my next appointment.  :tiphat:

Arguing with Christians is like playing chess with a pigeon.  No matter how good I am at chess, the pigeon is just going to knock over the pieces, shit on the board and strut around like it's victorious.

And you're going to think I'm "one-upping," but I actually eat with bald eagles on a regular basis.

'Course there are the perpetual Canada geese and a few wild turkeys, too.

Dang. Nearly forgot.

I work with a couple of turkeys, too.

And they probably have similar thoughts.

And in other news, Randy Travis takes another dive toward rock bottom after a second run-in with the law with DUI and obstruction charges after being found laying completely naked in the middle of a North Texas road close to the Oklahoma border.  Travis apparently crashed his car into barricades around a construction zone.  After officers arrived, Randy threatened that he would shoot and kill them.  Apparently that's a felony in Texas and could result in a sentence of 10 years in jail.

Here's Travis' mug shot in which he appears beaten up and pissed off, and looks pretty much like shit.

I enjoy his music but I don't think much of him as a person. Years ago he waas in Indy and he was at one of the hospitals because he had become ill. I happened to be there with my grandson picking up some medicine for him and Mr. Travis came into the pharmacy. A young boy, looked to about 10, walked up to him and asked for an autograph. He was downright mean to that little kid. A woman who was with Mr. Travis hustled him out of there right quick, maybe she was his manager. I wouldn't have thought much about it if he had just told the kid no, he didn't give autographs or he was sick but he really was mean.
