. . .
I'm looking forward to the next couple of episodes.... :spooked:   It has been pretty good so far.

I found the entire "mini-series" entertaining, and while they did a fairly good job of sticking to the facts, there are portions in which they take some literary license, so to speak. However, in their defense I see it as choosing which of the facts holds the most water. There were a LOT of perspectives to consider within the historic research.

I'd recommend the History Channel's "Hatfield and McCoy" Historical documentary, (not the movie), as a follow up view. Provides some additional facts that the mini series glosses over, as well as support for the fact that there are several versions of many of the events.

The whole feud was a he-said, she-said argument that went over the top.

I'm not interested in killing for the sake of attitudes and pride.

Self-defense is one thing; false pride and/or family honor is just bullshit.
Ignorance and fanaticism are ravenous. They require constant feeding.

But with statements like, "Alcohol. The shit works. . .", it would seem you still have a lot to learn!

Just got finished watching the History Channel's "Hatfields and McCoys", and I stepped outside and can hear fiddles and banjos from the Casino's "Country Throwdown" event. . .

Better go fetch my shotgun maw.

I watched about 60 seconds and couldn't take it anymore. They made it look like a western. I grew up not far at all from where all this took place. The old people still talked about it when I was a kid. It didn't look anything like the mountain people I remember.

I have only watched one episode so far, and I have the other two recorded....it is pretty harsh so far, and I understand it gets worse.
I'm not disputing you on anything Olias, but it seemed like they did a good job at the costumes and appearances, but they do have hollywood actors,.

Ah .... so you like Wikipedia when it suits you eh?

Look at the building in the background. That's what I think bothered me most. Those old buildings were still standing when I was growing up. The movie looked like a western set.

BTW, this is a picture of my great-great-great-great grandfather.

Wiki is good for some things. You are wise to take it with a grain of salt. If only you were wise enough to do so with some of the other sites you frequent.

Those pictures were taken in the general area of the Hatfield McCoy feud right about the time it was happening.

What I heard the family fight started over was of some very valuable timber land.  Seems to me that one grandfather stole or conned another grandfather out of that land.  I think.
