A Marine squad was marching north of Fallujah when they came upon an Iraqi terrorist who was badly injured and unconscious. On the opposite side of the road was an American Marine in a similar but less serious state. The Marine was conscious and alert and as first aid was given to both men, the squad leader asked the injured Marine what had happened.

The Marine reported, I was heavily armed and moving north along the highway here, and coming south was a heavily armed insurgent. We saw each other and both took cover in the ditches along the road. I yelled to him that Saddam Hussein was a miserable, lowlife scum bag who got what he deserved. and he yelled back that Barack Obama is a lying, good-for-nothing, left wing Commie who isn't even an American. So I said that Osama Bin Laden dresses and acts like a frigid, mean-spirited lesbian! He retaliated by yelling, Oh yeah? Well, so does Nancy Pelosi!

It maligns the Corp, and I find it offensive on a personal level; as well as on behalf of the millions of men and women who throughout the years have, and continue to, lay their lives on the line so that individuals who have not done so can waste their time and rights to make up stupid shit like that. . . And while these same men and woman may have in part done so just so they can continue to have that right, it doesn't give them diplomatic immunity to bite the hand that has fed them.

And as a military family I am very astonished to see such an act coming from him. . . Wonder how he'd feel if that Marine was changed to a National Guardsman???

Get over it? Never. Its an attempt, (and very poor one), to utilize a long standing brotherhood as a means with which to kick the POTUS in the meat curtains.

Ya know, I got that same joke in an email from my Uncle who was 40yr career military, the second time I head it was from one of our friends who was in the Marines for 10yrs, and I've had it from others in the military now so I don't think anyone in the military finds it offensive nor do they particular feel maligned by it. Hell one of the people I head it from had been to Iraq.  I guess it just depends on your viewpoint.  Again it's all in who's telling the joke and who it's about.  Who ever thought up the joke had just as much right as those who made all the offensive jokes about Bush, Cheney, Condi, Palin, Bauchman, and countless other conservatives.  If it's good for one it's equally as good for the other.  Fair is fair and all that good crap.  I don't even want to hear, "well this is different", 'cause it isn't.

In your world one can say whatever they please about whomever they please, with no societal ramifications; unless it personally impacts you. Then it is a different story.

To me this is an issue of morality; a personal system of values and principles of conduct. And if I have to explain that to you then you wouldn't understand. That other military vets may hold an opinion opposite mine is of no surprise to me. However, they earned the right to hold that position via their service, and I can respect that.

Isn't it bad enough that these men and women are more often than not, utilized as pawns within a political game of deceit, while they personally aspire to achieve some level of nobility and philanthropy via their service?

And comparing a "joke" about any political entity to one that sullies the reputation of any branch of the military is ludicrous. Politicians earn their abuse every day, while only those military personnel who conduct themselves outside of the traditions and code of honor inherent to the career should be subject to it.

It's in bad taste, so get over it yourself. I earned the right to hold that perspective, and that I will do with extreme prejudice. You do not have to like it or agree with it.
