That's really sad. It reminds me of what happened to Saginaw and surrounding areas when GM closed their plant. Everything else started to fall apart as people left the area.

That happened here too. GM left and the place has been in a dive ever since. . .  :'(

To this day you can drive down Scatterfield Road and see the vast empty fields and buildings where GM used to be. . .

Village Furniture has been closing their doors since I was a kid.  They were closing in Indy forever it seems.  This one may be for real though.

Their big grab on their TV ad was, "Village Furniture is closing it's doors forever."  That ad was almost as irritating as the Bob Catterson (sp) ad was, may he RIP.   Nooooooooobody.

This is a court ordered closing. They are even selling the building, fixtures. . . everything. Full liquidation.

Starts today. . .

I'll believe it when I see it happen.  That place always has some excuse as to why they have to 'close' their doors, but the most that ever happens is they move to a new building.

IIRC, the company is owned by two brothers with the store in Elwood and the other in Marion.

Law of Logical Argument - Anything is possible if you don't know what you are talking about.  ;)

"You've probably noticed that opinion pollsters go out of their way to include as many morons as possible in surveys ... I think it's dangerous to inform morons about what their fellow morons are thinking. It only reinforces their opinions. And the one thing worse than a moron with an opinion is lots of them." -- Scott Adams

In other words: Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.  ;)

"It is difficult to get a man to understand something when his salary depends upon his not understanding it." -- Upton Sinclair

"Hitler is gone, but if the majority of our fellow citizens are more susceptible to the slogans of fear and race hatred than to those of peaceful accommodation and mutual respect among human beings, our political liberties remain at the mercy of any eloquent and unscrupulous demagogue." -- S. I. Hayakawa

I'm with you on that one.  Do you remember the commercial I mentioned?  Village Furniture is closing it's doors forever.........I think it took on an entirely different meaning somehow.  They have been closing their doors for around 40yrs or more now.....

Seems to me then that the utilization of "court ordered" within advertising in the absence of such, would be an actionable situation???? And with Madison County so desperate for revenue that they'd be all over it like white on rice. . .????

I remember a store from my home town that was closing and every thing must go for years. Then it seems they were slapped because they kept advertising a closure and wasn't truely closing. I want to say, they ended up being forced to close also. I wish that I could remember the name of the store, but seems like it was a furniture or appliance store also. Maybe one of my fellow WVians can help me out.

It's sorta like, back some years some of the  big and profitable trucking companies shut down.  It was to try to beak from the Teamsters.  It didn't work.  But these companies would shut down and after a month or two and new trucking company would open up just down the street.  With the same owners, same office staff and the same trucks.  But they forgot one thing, the new truck drivers voted the Teamsters back in.
