Mumbai: The US would be spending a whopping $200 million (Rs. 900 crore approx) per day on President Barack Obama's visit to the city.

"The huge amount of around $200 million would be spent on security, stay and other aspects of the Presidential visit," a top official of the Maharashtra Government privy to the arrangements for the high-profile visit said.

About 3,000 people including Secret Service agents, US government officials and journalists would accompany the President. Several officials from the White House and US security agencies are already here for the past one week with helicopters, a ship and high-end security instruments.

"Except for personnel providing immediate security to the President, the US officials may not be allowed to carry weapons. The state police is competent to take care of the security measures and they would be piloting the Presidential convoy," the official said on condition of anonymity.

Navy and Air Force has been asked by the state government to intensify patrolling along the Mumbai coastline and its airspace during Obama's stay. The city's airspace will be closed half-an-hour before the President's arrival for all aircraft barring those carrying the US delegation.

The personnel from SRPF, Force One, besides the NSG contingent stationed here would be roped in for the President's security, the official said.

The area from Hotel Taj, where Obama and his wife Michelle would stay, to Shikra helipad in Colaba would be cordoned off completely during the movement of the President.

Where were you when George W. was flying all over the world on state visits.  Where were you when George W. was traveling all over the country trying to get us to put our money in Social Security.  All the trip to Texas.

Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime.

My point(s) were directed more toward diplomatic solutions to the challenges before this country right now. Say, hypothetically that the POTUS was, at the prompting of his advisors, considering a repeal or major modification of the NAFTA agreement, or some other trade agreement reached with a foreign entity. If this were to be the case would it make more sense to spend some money to provide background and garner some measure of support or understanding from these entities, or  just to do it without any kind of explanation or attempt at reconciling the validity for doing so?

This country took a major beating in the diplomatic circles globally during the Bush years. It will take decades to undo the damage, or an extraordinary effort in any case. The most effective and complimentary diplomatic gesture this country can make is for its CEO and CIC to personally undertake these efforts at least in the beginning.

I know no more effective means of cutting through the crap and getting to the meat of the issues than to have the top dogs of all parties sitting down at the table of diplomacy. They may not always be successful in achieving the agenda, but the diplomatic capital these events produce are priceless. . .

What price do we put upon diplomacy? Is it worth it or is war a more satisfactory solution?

The figure of $200 million a day is total bullshit.  On CNN their research team tried to find out where they came up with that number.  I came out of someone's ass.  The cost of the trip and what resources used are a state secret.

CNN said that one story was traced down to a low level aid in India.  Where in hell would he get all of that bullshit of $200 a day cost.  It had to come out of his ass.

It is another  RED HERRING from the Republican dirty tricks team.  They put it out and the big dumb fish take it hook line and sinker.  We don't spend that now in Iraq now each day.   Duuuuhhhhh.

Not unprecedented ....

http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/news/nsw-act/bush-arrives-in-sydney-for-apec/story-e6freuzi-1111114345038

US President George W Bush and his 1000-strong entourage have touched down in Sydney, triggering the biggest security lockdown in the city's history.

Accompanying the president was expected to be 150 national security advisers, 250 Secret Service agents, 200 public servants, 50 political aides, 15 sniffer dog teams and even five chefs.

The presidential 747 was accompanied by a second identical stand-in plane and followed by a third jumbo jet carrying 150 White House journalists, medical staff, advisers, public servants, Secret Service agents, dogs and cooks.

It is understood two or three transport planes carrying the presidential helicopter, Marine One, and dozens of motorcade vehicles including limousines, Secret Service wagons, VIP guest vans and an ambulance deployed in Sydney around two days ago to be ready for the president's arrival.

The total 1,000-strong delegation is more than three times larger than any other country, including the 300-strong Australian team.

And that has what to do with this?  Did he have Lora and the kids with him?  Was the economy this bad?  Did they have to close off entire sections of town?  Did he rent anything even close to extravagant as the Hotel Taj?

But let us say something about your liars and crooks you just scream bloody murder and usually end it up with, why don't you grow up or something stupid like that.   As the British say, "BRILLIANT".  Cry Babies,    Want a Kleenex?

When I first saw this POS subject being spread across the internet by the usual suspects, that the numbers were typical RW BS was the first thing that crossed my mind.

The second thing was that all those goombahs who put their brain in park and react emotionally to this sort of RW propaganda would be right there hootin' and hollerin' their fool heads off about it without a clue as usual.

Using the keys "Ctrl +" should enlarge the text in your browser, and "Ctrl -" should reduce it.

But you would waste your time reading what Hank posted, just as you wasted your time reading whatever RW propaganda on this issue that set you off emotionally in the first place.
