(CNN) -- Gen. Stanley McChrystal, America's top military commander in Afghanistan, has been recalled to Washington after his controversial remarks about colleagues in a Rolling Stone article, officials said.
McChrystal was summoned to attend a meeting on Afghanistan and Pakistan in person rather than by video conference, a senior administration official said Tuesday.
"He has been recalled to Washington," another official said.
McChrystal apologized Tuesday for the profile, in which the general and his staff appear to mock top civilian officials, including the vice president. Two defense officials said the general has also fired a press aide over the article, set to appear in Friday's edition of Rolling Stone magazine. . .

"All options are on the table", according to Gibbs surrounding the potential corrective action under consideration for McChrystal's grave and very serious error in judgment. . . .

It must have been the 9 miles he runs every day and the 4 hours of sleep a day he gets every day and probably the 1 meal a day he eats every day.  Noboby can do this with out doing damage to his body.  It surely was damage to his brain and his mouth.

Him being fired wouldn't surprise me.  He's always been sort of a loose cannon and "do it my way or else" kinda' guy.

Indeed he has. The only reason he is in charge in that theatre of operations is due to the support he received from the POTUS and his administration, and to turn around and allow something like this to transpire, and to actively participate in it himself, calls into severe question his ability to successfully achieve the objectives of the operation, and maintain the respect of those whom he is charged with leading.

I'm betting they were hooching it up one or two nights and that article is the result.

I agree, especially with his position.....and why did he do a "rolling stones" interview in the first place?....THAT alone seems like crossing Military ethics....he should step down.....THEN, do his interviews if he wants, but NOT while he is in his position.

Clearly indicative of one who doesn't have a firm grasp on what "chain of command" means, or if he does, he possesses no respect for it.

If he isn't authoring his resignation on the trip back to the states, he'll have his head handed to him by the POTUS.

I'm sure he knows EXACTLY what the chain of command means.....and I would be he has respect for the position, just NOT the man in the position......but, THAT is still wrong no mater how you slice it.

If he had any measure of  respect for the positions those he was critical of held, he'd have kept his pie hole shut; but he didn't.

you know I think there is more made of this than what it appears...and I am not making excuses for McChrystal, because he said what he said, but Rolling Stone I"m sure took random statements said in heated conversations....and RAN to the press to release this.....it was poor judgement I think for McChrystal to do an interview with ANYONE, let alone Rolling Stone....I don't think this is a good thing for the WH either, because McChrystal may have MORE (unflattering) things to say IF he leaves his post....and it is also not good for our soldiers during a war time...
