Y said "phone program"  and did not elaborate.  Now tell me just exactly what "phone program" was started under Reagan and what were the qualifications to get one?  I knew a lot of people who were on welfare and SSI and they had no phone of any kind so it wasn't an automatic thing like it is now evidently.

The life line is not a "free" program it is a discount to qualified people only and is paid for with the Universal Service Fee on your phone bill not taxes as such so it does not effect the federal budget by adding to it.  Although the free phone may not have started with Obama it has increased dramatically since he has been in office and since it is something he looks on as a vote getter he isn't going to bother to correct the record by letting people know he isn't the one responsible for getting that phone to them with the "free" minutes.

The irony of that is that that trinity includes some old bat that by her own admission can't pay for health insurance and some moron who thinks solving the country's financial issues are simplistic even while he wasn't able to maintain his his own personal finances, filed bankruptcy and lost his home dead in the middle of Bush's presidency and long before the housing bubble burst!

Mitt Romney doesn't see dead people. But that's only because he doesn't want to see them; if he did, he'd have to acknowledge the ugly reality of what will happen if he and Paul Ryan get their way on health care.

Last week, speaking to The Columbus Dispatch, Mr. Romney declared that nobody in America dies because he or she is uninsured: "We don't have people that become ill, who die in their apartment because they don't have insurance." This followed on an earlier remark by Mr. Romney — echoing an infamous statement by none other than George W. Bush — in which he insisted that emergency rooms provide essential health care to the uninsured.

These are remarkable statements. They clearly demonstrate that Mr. Romney has no idea what life (and death) are like for those less fortunate than himself.

Even the idea that everyone gets urgent care when needed from emergency rooms is false. Yes, hospitals are required by law to treat people in dire need, whether or not they can pay. But that care isn't free — on the contrary, if you go to an emergency room you will be billed, and the size of that bill can be shockingly high. Some people can't or won't pay, but fear of huge bills can deter the uninsured from visiting the emergency room even when they should. And sometimes they die as a result. . .

A123 Systems Inc. (AONE), a maker of rechargeable lithium-ion batteries for electric cars, filed for bankruptcy after failing to make a debt payment that was due yesterday.
The company listed assets of $459.8 million and debt of $376 million as of Aug. 31 in Chapter 11 documents filed today in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Wilmington, Delaware. 
A123 didn't expect to be on time with an interest payment due yesterday on $143.8 million of notes expiring in 2016, or to make a payment due yesterday on $2.76 million in outstanding 6 percent notes, the Waltham, Massachusetts-based company said yesterday in a regulatory filing.
"The company may not have sufficient cash to fund operations and may need to seek the protections provided under the U.S. Bankruptcy Code," A123 said.
The bankruptcy filing may fuel further political debate over government financing of alternative-energy and transportation businesses. Federal grants and loans to companies including A123, Fisker Automotive Inc. and Tesla Motors Inc. have drawn scrutiny from congressional Republicans following the September 2011 bankruptcy filing of solar-panel maker Solyndra LLC two years after it received a $535 million loan guarantee from the U.S. Energy Department.
