You really should research the political machinations that were involved before you start 'opining' about what you don't know.  ; )

Ya know, you're so all fired up to shut down the oil industry have you stopped to think about all the other things are petroleum based?  They're still gonna have their finger in your eye somewhere along the line.  Even if we were to go to total elec transportation you would still be dependent on the petroleum industry for a lot of things you use every day.  Have you by any chance researched and found out where the petroleum companies make most of their money/profits?  Before you ask, no I haven't either because I didn't think of it until now and I don't intend to 'cause I don't really care. Yes, it pisses me off to see the high gas prices but government intervention is not the answer because the people pay in the long run. 

As for the cost of those cars that flopped it was a combination of government regulations, as well as the cost of materials, and labor costs that determined the end cost.

I think it's jealousy.  People like Hank didn't land one of those good union manufacturing jobs so in their spite the unions are to blame.  I doesn't make any difference that things were changed on a political level that allowed those amoral capitalists to go outside the country and use slave wages to build products that somehow never managed to decrease in price - ignoring the fact that if labor costs were the real problem, then using slave wages should have resulted major product price decreases.

You're right about GM, it had plenty to do with the end of the Interurban and other public transportation we needed then and is imperative today.  GM also had its hand in the interstates in order to sell its trucks, the byproduct being the loss of our rail infrastructure.

Anyone with any sense knows there ain't nary sech critter as 'free trade'.  It's a lie the corporatists have sold the sheep so they'd vote in the corporatist's interests.   

And most of the people in Congress, both parties, own stock in said companies so you're a fool to think any of them are gonna cut their own throats by doing anything to harm any of them.  It's pure political banter to keep people at each other period.
