I am happy for you. But there are 20 million Americans about to be fed to the lions by the gridlock in congress. From my perspective things look very grim indeed, and there is very little hope of changing the gridlock now. It will be more of the same, only over the next two years it will be as if they are on steroids. . .

I sincerely hope you are wrong, and I honestly believe we WILL see some improvements, especially in Indiana.  Consumer confidence, in my opinion will now begin to grow, and that has been the missing link to this whole economic puzzle.

but time will tell.

and they have no one to blame but those who was in charge of Washington....it was poor leadership that kept 20 million Americans in the shape they are in.  It was many of these 20 million who decided to change things yesterday....This CAN, and WILL change for the better of the 20 million, in my opinion.

It would be great if it were indeed that simple Henry, but the reality is far more insidious that that.

I wish I could be as optimistic as you are right now, and in fact it would not take very much to induce such optimism in me. But the reality of what is to come can be found within history. Nothing more but more of the same is to come, and the least of us will be cast aside in the pursuit of the almighty dollar and the power it brings. . .    :'(

I agree PH, maybe this time they will be different but I am not going to hold my breath. I am cynical of all elected politicians, they all have some motive other than serving the public.

I too, have become very cynical towards our politicians, but I really believe this is a little different this time.  So many people on the left has been so consumed with bastardizing this "tea party" movement, that they really believe they are nothing more than a bunch of hick rednecks.  The truth is, they are nothing more than Americans, who are fed up.  I know I have been there first hand and witnessed.  We are seeing the results of this movement.  I am cautiously optimistic right now, because I think these people are not going to settle for anything less, than restoring this country.  This has been an unprecedented election, with historical gains.  I fully expect this to be the first step of many.

Maybe I am being naive, but I have been burned before, and I'm sure I will again, but it is just a gut feeling that this is a good thing.

I am hoping Henry.

Well, so much for the claim that the President is feeling our pain. His trip to India will cost the taxpayers about $200 million every day for security and his support team, renting out the entire Taj Mahal hotel with all 570 rooms. Spending a billion dollars on a trip while the American people are suffering is not a sign of tightening his belt. The people are tired of the arrogance and opulent lifestyles that has become synonymous with being a politician. It goes from the local level all the way to the top. When I was young a pickup truck purchased for municipal purposes was standard with no options, forget AC and a radio. Now I see where the new city truck for the superintendent of the street department is loaded with options including a CD changer. I am sure the dealer didn't just throw all the options in for fun, they have to make money too. A good leader leads by example and we sure aren't seeing that. I hope this new wave of candidates are ready to make self sacrifices to serve the people that elected them.

Since so many of our jobs are over in  India, he needs to look at them.  People made fun of Jimmy Carter when he made a speech from the White House with a sweater on telling us to turn down the thermostats in our homes and to drive 55.  Since we are the most powerful country in the world and our President needs to keep in touch with our trade partners, I don't want him flying second class on a second class airline.

If George W. can make over 350 trips in our 747 with his security force to go to Texas to cut wood, ride his bicycle and drive his pickup truck.  Obama sure should be able to go to India on a state visit.

Troll, it doesn't help comparing wrong things with other wrong things. But even Bush's trips to Texas didn't require 47 aircraft making multiple trips, the disassembly of Marine One and then having to put it back together again (two times), a US Navy armada off the coast, and with the economy in such a rut to boot. When my kids were little it always got to me when they compared themselves to other kids - "Billy got a video game for Christmas, why can't I get one?" No Troll, we need leadership that at least makes a gesture that they are suffering along with us. A lot of the cost will be for security but the Indian government will only let Obama's personal bodyguards carry weapons, that sounds strange to me. Remember the Taj Mahal hotel was one of the sites those terrorists killed a bunch of people two years ago.

So you can't very well compare Bush's trips to his home in Texas to Obama's trip to India. I would be happy to see the President go home to Chicago or even play several rounds of golf. If the economy was thriving I could also turn a blind eye, or if India was helping on the tab even. I guess you recall from your history books what started the French Revolution? One big reason was the monarchs living in luxury while the people were starving. Obama is quick to use words but not show he means what he says. Hell Troll, I voted for the guy myself. Faced with the same candidates I would still vote for him today. That doesn't mean he should be so arrogant and tell us things then do something else.

Henry, my point is that our system is one of checks and balances and because of that, there isn't a single person who can mandate anything. Least of all, the president. When people say "Obama's way" it implies, to me at least, that they actually believe that the president can singlehandedly force something on the American people. Hence the remark about the American people and American government. I have heard campaigns where the candidate said that a vote for him was a vote against Obama. That was pretty much his campaign slogan. So, I firmly believe there are some uneducated people out there who believe this single man can square off w/Obama. He got votes. Our government has become so polarized by political party, that neither side would recognize a good idea. It's all about who and not about what. IMO The American people have become divided in much the same manner. I see it in real life and I see it in the forum. Honestly, I hope you're right. I hope our votes brought in men and women who are going to help steer this thing around, but I'm skeptical and I'm anticipating more of the same.

I pretty much agree with everything you posted Miss Sandy. The only thing I would like to say is how I am opposed to two things that were started by other administrations, namely the appointment of czars and executive orders. Appointing individuals with the ability to determine policy without going through Congress should be outlawed the same as the ability to make executive orders. It bypasses the checks and balance system. I don't want anyone to make the mistake that I am blaming the current administration for doing the same things their predecessors started but I still think it is wrong.

Sandy it was no different with the last administration, it was Bush this and Bush that, so it IS just kind of a political tactic.

I truly think now that there is a more balanced congress, these guys are under a microscope by some Angry Amerians...and they just proved they are willing to hold people accountable.  Like I said, I am cautiously optimistic right now, that we WILL see things moving forward .... IF, and I say IF, Obama is not arrogant, and truly wants to move forward.....imho.

Well, I hope that's not the case and Obama learned from his predecessor who found his power to veto only after the Democrats became the majority.
