I haven't seen anything political about it.  There are people from both parties against it so how could it be entirely political?

Not political? Then what do you think it is? Fashion? Team spirit?

This little incident validates the fact you use a selective filter in reading and investigating or research. You only see what supports your position, even if it is proven wrong.

And you're seriously just now figuring this out?  I'll take it one step further...if she can't find something to support her position, she will spread outright lies to do so.

It is people who lost loved ones that day who understand the implications of the mosque being built at that particular location.  Why there?  Why not some other location where there would be no problem.  If they are so tolerant and understanding when the Mayor offered to purchase that land back and help them find another place why did they turn it down when they realized how people felt?  Sure politicians are going to jump on the bandwagon but it isn't all political.  Most politicians are saying, yes, they have a right to build there but it is wrong in view of the circumstances.  No one that I've heard has said they don't have a right to build on their property they are just questioning the motives.

The motives have nothing to do with it.  It's the Republican Dirty Tricks team hadn't made an issue of it and got the news media into this.  The mosque could have been built.  You must remember this is not a church.  It's a Muslim community center.  Hell, it's got a basketball court in it and a school to teach people to cook.  Oh, boogity, boogity, boogity man.  The Muslims are going to cook us to death.  Pass the basketball Ackman.  Boo, Boo, Boooooooo, boogity, boogity.  :preach: in the name of Jeeeeeeeeeeesus :jc:

So how far away from ground zero is far enough?  1/2 mile?  1 mile?  10 miles?

It's not the miles.  The religious Raputre Right don't want it built at all.  Peroid.

Good luck getting an answer to that one. I asked it out of the gate.

Naw, just pointing out evidence supporting the statement.

There are mosque's all over NY the thing people are objecting to most is that the building that was formerly on this property which is 2blks from ground zero was damaged in the explosion on 9/11 and even Muslims will tell you they always build a mosque on conquered ground.  That is the main objection to the whole thing. That is the main reason it is an issue.

Can you substantiate this custom of building mosques on conquered ground because it sure smells like hillbilly, right wing, rhetoric to me and a quick review of the websites spreading this bullshit bears this out.  Do you people have no shame whatsoever; it is really ethically palatable to you just make shit up as you go along to insight and inflame passions?  The rest of us call it lying.

Logically speaking, since you admit that there are mosques all over New York City, can you explain to us how the Muslims "conquered" each of those sites?  Yeah, didn't think so.  It's called critical thinking...look into it.

. . .In a nutshell, the article—by Stanford and UC Berkeley researchers—seems to suggest that conservatism is a mild form of insanity.

Here are the facts. A meta-analysis culled from 88 samples in 12 countries, and with an N of 22,818, revealed that "several psychological variables predicted political conservatism." Which variables exactly? In order of predictive power: Death anxiety, system instability, dogmatism/intolerance of ambiguity, closed-mindedness, low tolerance of uncertainty, high needs for order, structure, and closure, low integrative complexity, fear of threat and loss, and low self-esteem. The researchers conclude, a little chillingly, that "the core ideology of conservatism stresses resistance to change and a justification of inequality."

The above list of variables is more than a little unsavory. We are talking about someone full of fear, with a poor sense of self, and a lack of mental dexterity. I always tell my students that tolerance of ambiguity is one especially excellent mark of psychological maturity. It isn't a black and white world. According to the research, conservatives possess precisely the opposite: an intolerance of ambiguity and an inability to deal with complexity. Maybe that's one reason why Obama seems so distasteful to them: he is a nuanced, multi-faceted thinker who can see things from several different perspectives simultaneously. And he isn't preaching fear, either.

As many of us have suspected for quite some time, it would appear political conservatism is a form of insanity!
