Does anybody else on this board have any experience with working with the government?

I do. And you would be shocked at just how backward and archaic many government IT departments are. No backups. No email archiving. Systems that are woefully short on power and storage. So short on storage that old data is routinely wiped just to keep systems functioning.

I see it every single day.
I went to work for the feds in 1986. Fascinating job. Best decision I ever made. Changed my life completely. Can't talk about it because a top secret clearance required. But to address what Bo D wrote above, the office I went to work in, which was getting some attention, still  had word processors. Period. And they were always stalling or one thing or the other. Once I was in the ladies' room and noticed a woman using a blow dryer. When I got back to my office, next door, the word processors were not working. When that happened two days in a row, I thought, "No, it can't be," but decided to talk to the electrician who was in and out quite a bit. And he confessed with a sheepish grin that the wiring in our SCIF (no one admitted without a TS clearance) needed some updating.

How many trees do you kill every day by printing every piece of garbage that shows up in your inbox?
That is not the point here.

Quote1.10.3.2.3  (07-08-2011)
    Emails as Possible Federal Records

All federal employees and federal contractors are required by law to preserve records containing adequate and proper documentation of the organization, functions, policies, decisions, procedures, and essential transactions of the agency. Records must be properly stored and preserved, available for retrieval and subject to appropriate approved disposition schedules.

The Federal Records Act applies to email records just as it does to records you create using other media. Emails are records when they are:

Created or received in the transaction of agency business

Appropriate for preservation as evidence of the government's function and activities, or

Valuable because of the information they contain

If you create or receive email messages during the course of your daily work, you are responsible for ensuring that you manage them properly. The Treasury Department's current email policy requires emails and attachments that meet the definition of a federal record be added to the organization's files by printing them (including the essential transmission data) and filing them with related paper records. If transmission and receipt data are not printed by the email system, annotate the paper copy.
More information on IRS records management requirements is available at http://erc.web.irs.gov/Displayanswers/Question.asp?FolderID=4&CategoryID=5 or see the Records Management Handbook, IRM 1.15.1 http://publish.no.irs.gov/IRM/P01/PDF/31421A03.PDF).

An email determined to be a federal record may eventually be considered as having historical value by the National Archivist prior to disposal. Therefore, ensure that all your communications are professional in tone.

Please note that maintaining a copy of an email or its attachments within the IRS email MS Outlook application does not meet the requirements of maintaining an official record. Therefore, print and file email and its attachments if they are either permanent records or if they relate to a specific case.

^^  Do you have any idea how onerous that policy is?  That's what's wrong with government.

Yes, but it's still something that should be done for instances like this.  It was all done on paper before computers.  How convenient is it that just those certain emails that might make a difference, not in their favor, are the ones they can't produce?

6 Signs You're a Liberal Out of Touch With Reality

1. You think that George W. Bush caused the recent recession

2. You get your news from Jon Stewart

3. You watch MSNBC

4. You're still concerned about institutional racism

5. You think that raising taxes improves the economy

6. You're surprised that regulations on insurance companies are causing them to raise their premiums

1. He did; but he wasn't the only one.

2. I get my news from a variety of sources, but I'm not so naive as to believe any of them without doing my own research on the subject at hand. Stewart is not one of those sources though.

3. Neither is MSNBC

4. I am, and so should you. Unless of course, you are a racist and then it would be a career limiting move for you.

5. It does; especially if taxes are raised on the 1%er's. We've already seen what they are doing with the billions they are making on the backs of the least; and it isn't job creation.

6. If you believe that you're obscenely idiotic to the point of holding little intrinsic value toward contributing to a progressive society.  Everyone knows insurance companies are raising their premiums due to one factor and one factor only; greed.

When it come to facts George W. Bush didn't do anything.     He was the stupid hand puppet who was controlled by Dick Cheney and the Republican leaders and Chicken Hawks.

All of the problems we have now can be laid at the feet of the Republican Party and the Sheeple who worship  :kneel: the policies of the predatory super rich and the Republican Party.

GALLUP: Obama favorability dips well below Bush, Carter...

You should have known when you posted that you invented a misleading lead-in.  Either that of the link you provided is wrong. Those rating are for how people view former presidents.

"Americans view all former presidents more positively than negatively"

Why don't you compare Obama's ratings to the lowest ones of G.W. Bush when he was still in office?
