The Troll

Ladies, Ladies, Ladies, this is The Troll the peace keeper.   ;) I want you to do one thing.  Got to YouTube and type in Sara Palin - Wasilla has kooky prophesy sessions.  Watch it, then go and look at some of the other YouTubes and see where Sara is coming from.  Spooky :icon_twisted: :icon_evil:

If this doesn't clear your mind, nothing will.

You say that with such pride. I guess what they say is true then, ignorance IS bliss.

Although I do find it sad that you don't know enough about it to want to be.
Most "feminists" I have had the misfortune to encounter have been egotistical, self serving, man hating, domineering, hateful women.  I'm not saying you are but those I've ran across have been.  They don't want to be equal to the male but want to dominate him.  They also want things to be gender neutral, person hole covers, chairperson, mail carrier, and well, you get the idea.  Ya, equal pay for equal work and all that stuff is fine but for a woman to demand they be allowed into a men only school or club.....get serious.  IMO feminists started infringing on men's rights and wanted/demanded to do men's jobs even though some of the jobs entailed heavy lifting, which they couldn't do but expected the men to help them, and wanted to invade men only clubs, sports, and schools.  Oops, I guess I started of on another rage didn't I.  I'll quit here but that is an example of the feminists I have had the misfortune to encounter.

Out of respect for our forum friendship, I can't discuss this topic. Meaning, feminism, not the fact that Sarah Palin is stupid . Feminism is one of the subjects on my short-list that I'm very passionate about. I find that I can't discuss the topic with someone who really has no desire to understand what the theory of feminism is about and have some degree of respect for it, even if they don't totally agree or consider themselves feminists. As a matter of fact, I'm sure that to an extreme feminist, I'm a little to relaxed in my practice of the theory, but I do believe in it. Do I have any desire to go to a club designed for men? No, but how is having a gender only club or school any different from having a race only club or school? It's still a discriminitory practice. Would I be supportive of a woman who decided to challenge those boundaries? Yep. Would I? Maybe, it depends on the circumstances. I'm not the type to do something for spite, perhaps some people are, but I'd say that trait is genderless.

Anyway, I find that some people who discuss this topic tend to lean towards extreme examples and stereotypes and I get angry and not very nice, because of the importance of this. The old slogan "you've come a long way, baby" applies to our gender and I feel honest rage when people of my gender don't recognize that, respect it and make an effort to continue the work to take our gender even further. I also despise posers and Sarah Palin is a poser whether it be intentional or something conrived by the GOP. IMO These people only damage the advances that have been made.

So, for the record. I love men, especially men who are feminist. I don't think that women are better than men. I chide myself when I allow myself to objectify men, because that makes me a hypocrite (although I haven't found a man that minds ;D). I shave in all of the necessary areas and my face isn't one of them. I don't own a pair of "sensible shoes".  I love being a mom. I hate stereotyping and gender-casting.

Having said that, I'll stop hijacking of the topic here. I would suggest that rather than forming an opinion based on a few examples, that you (meaning anyone) do some research and learn about feminism so that you fully understand the concept.  Here's something to get you started.

Damned well told, Sandy. Except for that "you've come a long way, baby." We still haven't come quite far enough, and I'm not a baby.

You go girl!  Almost sounds like you know what your are talking about, for a woman.

(I hope you do realize that was a joke.  I am well aware that women have to work twice as hard as a man, just to prove they are equal, but still don't get paid but 3/4 the salary.  Sad.  I still cringe when I see/hear the term; "you've come a long way baby".  Makes me sick.  However, there are plenty of us in the workforce that know better and we didn't need corporate sensitivity training to get there (usually a joke).  It is called moral development and far too many are still on the lowest rung.)

                  ATTENTION, ATTENTION, ATTENTION!

Our dear Sara Palin has entered into a contract with the TLC Channel. (The Learning Channel???????) For 8 travelogues of Alaska.  There has been some rumors that she will get 1 million dollars for each show. :o :o

That's not too bad for a governor who couldn't complete one term.  Another thing, that Coho Salmon, that she was holding, has been dead for some time.  Look at her right hand and how dry and wrinkled the skin on the fish is.  Also how hard is it to shoot moose from a Piper Cub.  Sara's song should be "Antlers in the treetop,  by who goosed the moose."

Clearly it is of the ocean dwelling phase, and is a male, caught in the spring to early summer period. Care to explain the streaming vent hole if it is dead then? And don't say its water because if it were it would follow the path of gravity, which clearly it is not. . .

I got curious after you said she was holding the fish wrong and looked up a bunch of pic's last night and in all I found, which were several, the fish were being held in a similar manner.  I was also sure to look at pic's of salmon too.  Not disputing your word just was curious as to what you were meaning and was looking for the difference is all.

They're out there and they are wrong. But don't take my word for it. Just grab one the same way when you have the chance. The fish will teach you. . . and should it be a 30+ pounder so will the resulting doctor bills.

Those holding these fish any other way severely underestimate the raw power of these fish, and over estimate their ability to control them using such holds.

BTW Troll: That "loose skin" you note in the anal fin area of the fish is almost assuredly due to two factors; 1. Deflation of the swim bladder internally within the fish, and 2. evacuation of the digestive tract waste. Both occur spontaneously when the fish is subjected to duress, such as being hooked in deeper water and fighting all the way to the surface.

I have no clue either way and don't intend to find out.......  The only difference I did see was one of a guide, or at least he appeared to be a guide due to the uniform, and he was holding it similar but it was a larger one and he had his hand buried further into the gill was all.

I'll clarify a little something here for you using the above diagram showing a typical fish skeleton.

See the bone structure forward of the pectoral fins (leading edge just in back of the gill plate in the above diagram).

In salmon this structure is very sharp and in the direct vicinity of the gill plates and rakers. In fact it is the surface upon which the gill plates rest. While holding a salmon as Palin is in the previous picture, her hand is directly in this area.

Should the fish spasm and shake its head (swim) while it is being held in this manner, that structure will cut your hands to the bone, and so can the gill plates. I've seen it happen to a lot of greenhorns who don't know any better and it is very painful and bloody to say the least. Most of the time it requires stitches to close too.

A salmon is among the most power freshwater species out there, and I have seen them snap 60 pound test mono like it was sewing thread at 30 pounds, and strip saltwater reels and rods at weights above that. One slap from that tail out of the water and you'll think a 250 pound ass kicker just punched you in the gut. A well placed slap from that tail will drop you and I don't care who you are.

You should spend an afternoon and early evening in Lincoln Park Lagoon in Chicago some October, and see what these fish can do to those who don't know any better. No joke. Right there by the boat houses you can watch it happen as they swim in for the spawn and the people on shore snag them using K mart rigs made for bluegills or other ill advised set ups. Every year these fish destroy thousands of dollars worth of equipment in nano seconds, and sometimes one of them gets lucky and lands one. Then the real show starts because when they pick them up for pictures somebody is going to get cut real bad, and it isn't going to be the salmon. . .

I'd say if that fish wasn't dead that I mentioned in that one pic there was a guy at risk of having a badly injured or missing hand from what that says.  He had all four fingers in almost to the last knuckle.
