Justice in Chicago Il .   December2, 2009.........(AP) -
A seven-year old boy was at the center of a Cook County courtroom drama yesterday when he challenged a court ruling over who should have custody of him.  The boy has a history of being beaten by his parents and the judge initially awarded custody to his aunt, in keeping with child custody law and regulation requiring that family unity be maintained to the highest degree possible ..
The boy surprised the court when he proclaimed that his aunt beat him more than his parents and he adamantly refused to live with her. When the judge then suggested that he live with his grandparents, the boy cried and said that they also beat him.  After considering the remainder of the immediate family and learning that domestic violence was apparently a way of life among them, the judge took the unprecedented step of allowing the boy to propose who should have custody of him .

After two recesses to check legal references and confer with the child welfare officials , the judge granted temporary custody to the  Chicago Bears Football Team , whom the boy firmly believes are not capable of beating anyone..

Well the Dolts, err Colts, rolled over and took one up the 6 yesterday, thanks to the idiots that make the decisions within the organization. They sat the starters, for the most part, starting about mid 3rd quarter.

I watched a late night edition of a local sports program and they showed Jeff Saturday (Colts Center) and he wasn't very happy about things. He said in part, "We are professional players and we play every game to win. I play every game to win each week, and the decision is not one I agree with".

He was one of the few who didn't adopt the company line about making sure everyone is healthy in the playoffs.

How many times does a professional player in any sport get the opportunity to accumulate an unbeaten record (season) in their careers? How many teams have ever accomplished it? Not many, two in football; the 72 Fish and the Pats. The year the Pats did it they blew it in the playoffs. . .But they still had the unbeaten record to crow about.

If the Colts go one and out in the playoffs the management is going to look like the biggest idiots in the NFL, and there are plenty of idiots in the game anyway. Too bad Indy is going to lay claim to the top position in the league!

I still say it wouldn't matter if they went 16-0 in the regular season or not, because I don't see them making it to the Super Bowl unless something goes awry with the other contenders.  The Colts (despite their record) arent' the best team in the AFC.

I agree PH..........not many people can tell you who won the SB 21 or even two years ago........but there are plenty who can tell you who had perfect seasons...........

I think this takes away the fire and grit that these players had........and now, these guys will never know it they was "good enough" to accomplish an amazing task....at least the Bears went 15 and 1 during their stint and lost -  fair and square.....

I disagree.....their defense is playing better or as well as anyone in the league and Manning is having a stellar season...and they have MANY, MANY weapons on offense.....I think it is theirs to lose.

Peyton Manning's face spoke volumes about how he really felt about being pulled with a 5 point lead, deep in their own end in the 3rd quarter. He and virtually all of the starters, were not happy campers. But they were good sheep and spewed the company line when asked how they felt about it in the post game interviews. Almost to a man, except for Saturday.

What highly skilled player is going to want to play for an organization that:

a) Doesn't care about its fans and the fact they pay top dollar to see their favorites perform?

b) Doesn't care enough about their players, their motivation, and their stats, to allow them to accomplish what few in their profession can lay claim to?

No, the Colts organization doesn't care about the fans, which was obvious when they arrived in those Mayflower trucks after sneaking out in the dark of night from Baltimore. One has to think, when are they going to do the same thing to Indy?

The only thing they care about are the double+ ticket prices they get to charge during the playoff games. To hell with the fans, and to hell with the players. (Allowing them to achieve a perfect record gives them another bargaining chip in any contract negotiations that may be forthcoming doesn't it?)

Good thing this next play dead session is in Buffalo. A lot of season ticket holders would probably give away their tickets if ti was a home game; if they could find anyone to give them to!

While all of that may be true, if they go one or two and out now they have a built in excuse don't they? Their karma was disrupted by a greedy and stupid decision of management. I don't care what sport you are talking about, players are superstitious to a degree. You roll over and take it and from that point on it is three times as hard to get your mojo back. It wasn't broke so why try to fix it? They ask these guys to play through injuries all season long don't they? Why change now? (Hint: Ticket prices, the gate)

I don't totally disagree with this.......but, I think, Manning and Company have won 23 regular season games, because they are just THAT good....and they do have such a desire to win....but, I do think this could hurt their rhythm....

Next controversy; the proposal to go to an 18 game regular season.

Doing so will result in nothing more than a lot more meaningless games in which the teams can charge top dollar to its fans to see second rate rookies try to learn how to knock the snot out of each other and play grab the greased pig.

If they care so much about the players well being, why are they ignoring the retired and crippled players upon whose shoulders their present empire was built?

They run around the country strong arming the citizens of this nation, forcing them to pay for their bejeweled palaces via taxation, charge a small fortune for the right to sit in a seat and watch a game, and then deny the very people who validate and pay for their existence the right to see the best players play.

I hope the NFL Players do strike in 2011, because it will mean the end of the NFL and its God complex!

"Could" is an understatement. Manning and company thrive on reps and success. Look how they started the season last year when Manning missed the preseason and training camp. He and his team sitting on the bench over the next 3 weeks is going to ruin everything they had going. Manning was already getting rusty which was evident in the last 2 weeks of play; overthrows, ducks, and interceptions. Clark and Wayne dropped passes yesterday that they've caught all season long.

Historically they've been slow starters and a second half team, and that is totally unacceptable in the playoffs. 3 weeks will drain their stamina and they'll be sucking for wind in the second half of the first playoff game. . . I don't care how many drills the coaches put them through in the next 3 weeks. They've already broken the chain, and they'll pay the price for it now.

Let's also look at the Colts' season to date and who they've played:

Week 1:  Colts 14   Jaguars 12    <---  Not a very stellar performance against a crappy team, but it's early in the season.

Week 2:  Colts 27   Dolphins 23   <---  Again, not a very good performance against a team, like the Jaguars, who have losing record.

Week 3:  Colts 31   Cardinals 10  <---  This one's ok.  Cardinals are pretty good and have a winning record.

Week 4:  Colts 34   Seahawks 17 <---  Again, they whip up on a crappy team.  Seattle's record is losing as well.  They're 5-10

Week 5:  Colts 31   Titans 9         <---  Beat another team with a losing record.  The Titans are 7-9.

Week 6:  (Bye)

Week 7:  Colts 42   Rams 6         <---  A pattern develops.  Whipping another crappy team with a losing record.  Rams are 1-14

Week 8:  Colts 18   49ers 14       <---  Squeaked by a team with a losing record.  49ers are 7-8

Week 9:  Colts 20   Texans 17      <--- Again, squeaking by in a close game against a mediocre team, with barely a winning record.

Week 10: Colts 35  Patriots 34     <--- Patriots have a winning record and the Colts would have lost this game had it not been for that purely stupid move by Bill Belichick

Week 11:  Colts 17  Ravens 15     <--- Squeaked by again against a team with barely a winning record.  The Ravens are 8-7

Week 12:  Colts 35  Texans 27      <--- Again, Texans are 8-7.  Barely a winning record.

Week 13:  Colts 27  Titans  17      <---- Only a 10 point win against a team with a losing record.

Week 14:  Colts 28  Broncos 16    <---- A win, but again against a mediocre team.  The Broncos are 8-7.

Week 15:  Colts 35  Jaguars 31     <---- See above comments in the first game.

From the above, in the 15 weeks that the Colts went undefeated, who did they really play?  They had an easy schedule and of the 14 games they won, only 2 were against teams with real winning records (and they were handed one of those wins), 4 were against teams that barely have a winning record, and a whopping 8 of those games were against crappy teams with losing records.

I'm sorry, but given that, I don't see how the claim can be made that they're the best team in the AFC.  Not by a long shot.  I see trouble for them in the playoffs.  Like PH said, depending on how the chips fall, they may go out in divisional round.  The only thing that's good for them is that it's a certainty that won't see the Chargers in the divisional round.

I think the season is long enough as it is...and I agree that this is simply a way for the league more money....I think they should cut the pre-season down to two....keep it at 16 games for the season...and end the season a couple of weeks earlier than now....
