I agree that there should be consequences but you are skirting the question; how would you recommend we punish them?

I would have forces ready for a response of ANY nature....also, it would be time for Japan to step up to the plate, and NOT leave it all for the US to bear.

Not very likely they will do anything outside of defend themselves if they are directly attacked since they have a pacifist constitution.

Actually, if anyone needs to take a leadership role in this it should be the UN, IMHO. The last thing the U.S. needs is another police action conflict in Korea, and while the U.S. should contribute its fair share to such an initiative, such should be led by the U.N..

As frustrating as diplomatic efforts have been in this, severe sanctions should be enforced as a first step. Any military initiative must come via a resolution from the UN; and should recognize and anticipate that if such an initiative is undertaken it could potentially result in China lending support to N Korea just as they did the last time.

The UN currently enjoys a reputation as a paper tiger among the global entities, and this is an opportunity for them to demonstrate this is not the case. Unless they do so they are destined for failure in the long run.

So does this mean you two extend plausible deniability to W for this? I mean, the sabre rattling has been going on for years from this whackjob leader of N Korea, even during W's reign and he did nothing much about it either. So that makes him innocent?
