Now isn't that pathetic?  I know it was something between Interurban and Jamz but I can't think of it.  What's bad is I used to go up there all the time.  Sure hope someone comes up with it soon 'cause that's gonna drive me nuts.

Elliot's, I think.

Let's see...I came on the music scene in Anderson in the early 80's. Da Wham is MUCH older than I, lol!
I remember playing at the VIP lounge on 53rd street before it became a strip club.
And the "Thunderdome", er, I mean the "Char-Lu" near downtown. I played there many, many times. At least one weekend a month for a year, I think it was. For awhile it was THE music club in Anderson.

Does anyone remember the short-lived jazz and BBQ club that was downtown? I played there once or twice with Rudy Turner.

When I think of the Char-Lu in the 80's....I think of the Daugherty Brothers Band or Nuthin Fancy....

I've got a 45 Rudy recorded a long time ago.  I never seen him play though.

I played in a band called "Nightwind". We had a singer, keys, two guitars, drums, and bass (me). A pretty big bar band by today's standards. You might know Jeff Martin or Tom Evans, both of whom were in that bad at one time or another.

Anybody know whatever happened to Tom?

Anyone remember this band?

I always really liked Robin. I'm not sure who the bass player or drummer were, but that's Mike Eustler (sp?) on lead guitar in the video.
Gee, I haven't heard Robin or even OF Robin for a couple of years now. I hope she is doing well. Ditto Mike E.

Lessee...Tom Evans. He either ripped-off and/or pissed-off most of the musicians in the Anderson/Madison county area over the years.
A couple of years ago I was approached by some mutual friends to play some kind of concert at the city auditorium with/for Tom.
I declined. Too much bad blood, even if he has "got religion" now.

Oh yeah, Rudy!
I met Rudy Turner at Music Today (it might still have been Joe's, even). I was just a guy who wandered in to check out bass guitars that he couldn't afford. Rudy was sitting on an amp jamming on a guitar like nobody's business, lol! I was astounded at what he could do. It was so different from the R'n'R I was used to hearing.
We talked for a minute, and introduced ourselves. He then had me get a bass down off of the wall, plug in, and jam with him.
Of course I SUCKED, lol!
But he was patient and showed me what he wanted me to play, and he jammed over top of my bass lines.
That started a musical friendship that lasted until he moved out of town. For the next year I would go to his house once or twice a week and he would teach me to not just play music, but to FEEL music. He taught me how to "create a conversation" with my instrument. He got me away from using picks and just using my fingers to play the bass (much more expressive), and how volume is another tool of musical expression.
Btw, Rudy could not read music! He was by far the best "ear player" that I ever heard, though.
I even played a few gigs with him, and made a recording (I still have a copy on cassette).
I owe a lot to Rudy Turner and I miss him greatly.

The bass player is Dennis Sharp, he lives in Muncie last I heard, and the drummer is Chuck Luyet who passed away a few years ago.
I wish I had gotten Robin and Amber singing together on video but never did. I really enjoyed it when they sang together.  Both she and Amber have moved out of state unfortunately.  :(  Robin is doing well though, I hear from her occasionally.

I went to Rudy's house with his sister one time and he got his guitar out and played.  His sister sang Proud Mary and she did it every bit as good as Tina Turner but to my knowledge she never did anything other than sing at home and she and I were friends for quite a few years before she passed away.  It was shortly before he moved out of town so never got to hear him with a band.

I didn't know she had passed away. I am sorry to hear that. She would join Rudy and I occasionally when we jammed at his house.
She could REALLY sing! The version of "Summertime" that I perform now is the version that she would sing with Rudy and me. Real smoky, minor-bluesy, style.

Very sad to find that out. Any idea how to get in touch with Rudy?

No idea at all.  I was in touch with one of his niece's for a while but haven't even seen her in forever.  Wonder if he has a Myspace page.
