Title: Introducing...... Max
Post by: Dexter Morgan on February 16, 2008, 04:43:37 PM
Max is my newest kitten. The past few days he's been struggling to survive. I found him out in the cat barn. I didn't even know he existed. The other night, I went out to feed them, and this little scrawny kitten, (that looked like a skeleton with hair) came crawling out. He looked frightful. He was skinny, and he had a vacant look in his eyes, and he was wheezing, and coughing. I couldn't believe how bad he looked.  :spooked: So, I scooped him up ,and ran in the house, and started him on antibiotics. To say he was in grave condition would be an understatement. I didn't figure he'd make it through the night. He did!!! That morning (it would've been last Wednesday)he was breathing his dying breaths, so I took him to the vet's office, and dropped him off, and went to work. There was really NO hope at all for him.  When I got off work, I stopped by to (assumingly) pick up his body. My friend Kathy says to me "he's still alive, but it was grave. The vet thought I ought to leave him there for the night". So I did. I called over the next morning (Valentines Day),and they said he's eating and doing a lot better. Which REALLY made my day.  I went to work, and Kathy called me at 1:30 PM, and says "Max is well enough to go home tonight."  :sofa: So, I stopped and picked him up, and he has been doing very well. He had a checkup this morning, and got another antibiotic shot, and some liquid antibiotics for at home. The other cats are NOT receptive to him at all. He follows them around, because he wants to cuddle. It's heartbreaking to watch the little fart keep being rejected. Animals are funny like that. I don't think in all of the time I've had cats, they've ever been this cruel. I don't know if it's his emaciated figure, or his eyes. His eyes when he looks at you, looks like he's looking  through you.I must admit it is kind of creepy, but the vet thinks he'll grow out of it. Anyway... I've got my hands full again. I'll put updates on his recovery on this thread.

Hope the little guy makes it and the other cats learn to accept him.

He's doing pretty good tonight. I'm not sure if the other cats are going to accept him or not. They are acting real strange about him. I'm not sure what's up with that? I do know they are very jealous of him. Dudley, seems to be taking it the worst out of all of them. He likes to think he's the only cat in Mommy's life LOL!!!
He's spoiled rotten, they all are.

I'm doin' my best for him. He sure has made a comeback. When I first found him, he was soooo weak, his  hips would go sideways when he walked, it was pathetic.  :'( He was sooo weak he couldn't even chew, and swallow his food. He's quite a little guy, I just wish the others would accept him. The first time he saw Pugsly, he fell in love with him.  :smitten: Usually, the first time a kitten sees Pugsly it freaks out, and goes absolutely apesh*t LOL!!! Their hair stands on end, claws come out, and hissing, and snarling commences. It is quite a sight, and we always crack up over it.  :rotfl:

He's doin' great today!!! He's been running around ,and playing like a madman. I think he has gained a little bit of weight. The way he eats it's a wonder he hasn't gained a pound. He just went flying by, and it appears that he ,and Maddie are playing!!!!  :sofa: Thank God, I was starting to worry, that he might not ever fit in. Whew...

He has officially moved into the "brat"category. Last night he and Maddie kept running through the house, while Mommy wastrying to sleep. Mommy got pissed, and captured Maddie, and put her in the bathroom. Mommy then proceeded to chase Max around trying to catch him to join her. I grabbed him by the tail because 1) I was pissed
             2) it was dark
            3) I didn't have my specs on
              4) I was half asleep
anywho... I had him by the tail, and he was spinning wildly in the air. He was all claws and teeth. He didn't bite me, but he gashed the middle finger on my left hand.   see....    :finger01: man, did that hurt. I never did catch the little turd. This morning he,and Maddie were very lovey dovey towards Mommy LOL!!!

Max is doing really good now. He has grown quite a bit,and he is a total brat!!! He is always in to everything. I have to close him in the bathroom at night, because he attacks my feet when I'm sleeping. It is not a good time to be brought out of a dead sleep by being bit in the toes.  He is such a turd, and when you throw Maddie into the mix it is crazy.

Oh hell no!!! It gets pretty crazy around here, the minute I climb into bed,and turn the lights out. Have you seen the movie "Night at the Museum"? That's how it is here. The minute the lights go out, all hell breaks loose.

Guess you're gonna have to start keeping them awake during the day somehow so they'll sleep at night...lol

that's how it is at my house Dex.  Seems mine like to get playing somewhere from midnight to 2a.m.  Good thing I am a night owl and am still awake at that hour.

My youngest daughter moved in with us a few weeks ago and brought her kitten with her.  She told me that he liked to attack feet and the first night here he did just that.  I let him know who was boss....and he has not done it since.  I think he just needed some other kitties to run all that energy off him.  He is a real good kitty now.

Actually, they HAVE  to sleep during the day, because Hubby sleeps during the day. He'd kill them if they didn't. Last night, they slept all night until 6:00 this morning. So, that was wonderful. Right now, Hubby is sleeping, and I've got them closed up in the bathroom. Maddie is having a fit in there. Pugsly is tied out on the deck, and he's barking his fool head off at the cats. It's a zoo here I swear.

Boy, they sure can be ornery!!! If I don't wake up fast enough to please them, they launch an assult. Hell, mine jump up and down on me, bounce off of me, bite me, rip at my hair, stare into my face, and one even grabs my eyelids with his teeth.  :spooked: Yeah, they pretty much run the place LMAO!!!  :spooked:  The little assholes will probably kill me in my sleep one day and eat me.

You don't have pets?  :spooked: That surprises me. You seem sooo nice, I figured you for a pet person. Some people, infact a lot of people choose not to have pets. Sometimes, I wish I didn't have sooo many. It's expensive, and very time consuming. The unconditional love, and comfort they give, is why I love them sooo much.  :smitten: But I do get tired of them.  :-\

We're gone too much in the summertime and really couldn't give a pet, preferably a dog, all the attention we feel they deserve.  We do give our neighbors dog quite a bit of attention though.

You're doing the right thing there. It's cool that you would think of the animals feelings first. I bet you'd make a great pet owner someday, if you wanted one.

We have both had pets in the past and loved them dearly but they are a lot of responsibility.  The most recent was a part wolf that we rescued from a very bad situation.  He was in such poor health he didn't even have any eye lashes and his neck was raw from the choker chain being around his neck and the tips of his ears were raw where flies had been biting him.  He was funny though.  When we would take him to the vet he was very passive and kept his head lowered but here he was in his domain with his pack so to speak and he was king of this castle and our protector head held high and very proud.

awwww thankfully he found such a loving home.

I'm watching animal planet right now and they're talking about the cat shows, similar to dog shows, but for cats and one man has 30 cats. He says that he uses two hours in the morning to feed, water and clean and then when he gets home from work 3 to 4 hours doing the same and grooming the cats. I'm happy that he loves the cats so much, but can one person give 30 cats enough attention? Then again, cats are very independent and really don't ask for a lot, but when they want it ... they want it. That's been my experience anyway.

When I had a Rottie and had her in obedience class, there was a lady who bred German Shepherds and Timber Wolves. Beautiful dogs, but she had to train away from the rest of us. If one of us accidentally stepped in what her two dogs considered "their space" they'd growl a low growl and prepare to defend. I'd hate to see what would happen if we ran at her. :spooked:

It would not have been good for sure.  I don't know about German Shepherds but wolves are very territorial.

I meant she bred them together. They were  Shepard/Wolf mixes. She's breed and sell them.

He sounds like a wonderful dog. It seems like the ones that have been abused, are really the most docile, and loving animals. Considering what they've been through, they really don't seem bitter so to speak. Some of them do become aggressive, but most are sooo happy to have a decent home, that they provide great companionship.

I've got a bunch of cats, and they are very expensive, and time consuming. You just do the best you can on the attention thing. I spread the love pretty good. This morning when Hubby got home he says "I hate to tell you this, but one of the cats got hit on the road last night." So, we got the shovel and walked down to get her. Whoever hit her must have been flying. We've had them get hit before, but this was the goriest mess we've had. Not a single cat followed us down the road. Not one of them left the deck. Hubby said, he thought they knew what happened, before we ever brought her in to the yard. Not a single cat budged. They know they're not suppose to go out of the yard. Maybe, this will teach them a lesson? Probably not but it would be nice.

Max is doing very well now. Infact, when it gets warm enough, he will be joining the outside cats. I've got him with some other kittens his age, so they will be a little gang. Kittens against the world!!!! He's ornery as all get out, so I don't think he'll have any problems, with the bigger cats.

Max had his first day outside today. My boy is growing up.  :'( He was pretty scared. He kept low to the ground, and mostly hid behind things. He was out for several hours, and he was ready to come back in. It didn't help his fear when the tom cats started fighting. We had about 5 fights between the toms today. Buddy my oldest cat got jumped twice, and we was squealing and bawling ,and couldn't get away. He's 9 and he really shows his age. I'm not sure how he got involved in the first place, because he's normally docile.

At one point Hubby, and I had to go out, and break it up. This badass stray tom we named Slim Shady, jumped on poor old Buddy, and wouldn't let loose of him. The other cats were running around like screaming banshees, and fur was flying everywhere. Hubby, picked up a long piece of the eavespout. and punted Slim like a football. It wasn't hard enough to hurt him, but I think being airborne scared the living daylights outta him LMAO!!! Things calmed down REAL fast after that. There were no injuries from what I could tell, so that was cool. I don't think old Buddy is feeling too froggy though. He laid on the deck all day after that. Poor old guy. That damn Slim is gonna write a check, his ass can't cash one of these days.
