Title: The Middle East
Post by: Henry Hawk on August 07, 2014, 09:40:37 AM
I think this video explains a lot about the problems in the Middle East.

I'm curious. Why are right wing Christians so adamant in their support for Israel when that country supports a religion that denies the validity of Christianity?

Why do you assume you have to be a right wing Christian to support common sense?  Why is it that liberals have this desire to HATE Jews?

Anyone read the article in the paper today about growing antisemitism in Europe? I am constantly amazed at how evil people can be.

You still didn't answer my question........by and far, liberals (as a majority) seem to have a dislike for Israel.  Why is that?

My observation is that it is not something the "mainstream media" seems to want to cover....

I don't believe that to be true.  How about you prove your assertion?

Where I grew up, it was the conservatives who hated Jews because of "what they did to Jesus." I think you'll still find that attitude in rural churches, especially Baptist.

I agree Bo D and especially in the Deep South. I think and this is just my feelings on the whole Middle East subject is that they all have been fighting over a section of land that was promised to them in Biblical times. I would suggest they get over it but that isn't going to happen.

Yes!

I wonder if Henry really meant what he said.

Yes,  I meant what I said.

I will back up.  I have fallen into the mistake of using generalities.  From my point of view, As a Christian it seems impossible to NOT love the Jewish people.  Jesus was a Jew.  Though we have differing views of who Christ is, we are still brothers among God.  Our Bible tells us to pray for peace in Jerusalem.

As a Human Being and an American, why would I not support a peaceful loving Nation such as Israel?

I am sure there are SOME Christian churches that hate Jews....though I would bet there are not too many of them.  Bo, do you have proof that this is widespread in the south or with Baptist?

My opinion is that if a conservative hates jews, he/she is not a practicing Christian.....

Pew reports that 73 percent of Republicans are sympathetic to Israel in the ongoing conflict, but just 44 percent of Democrats.  (http://www.bostonglobe.com/opinion/2014/07/21/israel-democrats-are-losing-their-moral-clarity/0Mx4k2WoZfyVhdCtEObP6O/story.html)

Where did I say widespread? I'll bet you read the news like you read posts here. That would explain a lot.

My statement was from personal experience growing up in a rural Baptist church.

You said..."it was the conservatives who hated Jews".  Not a few of the conservatives.  "the conservatives" is what you said.  My statements is also based upon personal experiences from liberals....and growing up in a Conservative Church in the midwest.

I am honestly not trying to be critical, just wondering, WHY, it appears, that many liberals are against Israel? Or maybe a better way to put it, NOT in favor of supporting Israel during this crisis.

Damn it, Hank! I said "where I grew up, it was the conservatives ..."

And then you tried to claim I said "widespread"  Can't you see that????

I'm reminded of something that almost every adult I knew as a child professed ...

1 Thessalonians 2:14-16

14For you, brethren, became imitators of the churches of God in Christ Jesus that are in Judea, for you also endured the same sufferings at the hands of your own countrymen, even as they did from the Jews, 15who both killed the Lord Jesus and the prophets, and drove us out. They are not pleasing to God, but hostile to all men, 16hindering us from speaking to the Gentiles so that they may be saved; with the result that they always fill up the measure of their sins. But wrath has come upon them to the utmost.

First of all, sorry I caused you to "damn it me"....

Secondly, I think that verse if just Paul talking to the Thessalonians, trying to encourage them during a harsh time.  Not so much to Christians today.

BUT, again, just my opinion.....I am not close to being any kind of "Bible dude"...preachin.

It is just my view, that if you hate, you are not being Christian.  Something the vast majority of "Christians" struggle with.

That is one reason I don't go around spouting Bible verses. Each person has their own interpretation of the Bible so it is better to leave it to what they do or do not believe.

Quit being an ass.  Either be a productive part of the discussion or butt out.

It isn't just rural Baptist Churches either.

My dear departed mother brought me and my siblings up in Chicago and we attended a Southern Baptist church there. Even at my young tender age back then, the intense dislike for those of the Jewish Faith was clearly apparent.

It wasn't just Jews that were disliked when I was growing up. It was Jews and Catholics and I grew up in a Cumberland Presbyterian church.
