When did you stop?  :stop:  I sure haven't seen anything come out of your mouth what was brilliant.     :trustme:  Sure thin skinned aren't you Henry.

All I have asked is some answers from you about your sweetheart, the Golden Mitten.  But, oh no, you don't answer question about your party.  Do you?

You're right on half of it.  I'm tired of your same O, same O Republican brainless bullshit to.  I want this country to be great again.  You and your Republicans want to take us back to the 1800's where the super rich like Rockefeller and corporations like Standard Oil and the robber barons ruled.

I do think you are thinskined and a little slooooow.  :haha:

Ever heard of an independent Troll?  A person can be an independent and still not agree with the current administrations policies but that doesn't make them a republican.  Of course you'd rather name call than respond to people in an adult manner.

Quote from: Anne on July 19, 2012, 10:39:04 AM
When name calling and and lack of respect for others opinions became the norm here.

I know this shouldn't bother me any longer, but as this was once my 'baby' it annoys the hell out of me.   :icon_evil:

1) A forum, properly run as this one still seems to be, isn't anything but a reflection of the members themselves.  The onus of 'good times' and 'great dialogue' lays completely with the member's own attitudes, actions, and abilities to generate those things.

2) Those things do not mean they only exist when everyone agrees with you.  In fact, agreement should only come through the weight of cogent argument and people being adult enough to recognize adherence to a untenable opinion/position/viewpoint and a losing argument and then to change their minds.

3)  I don't know how many times over the years I've pointed out that 'name calling' is not necessarily 'name calling'*, and that not all 'opinions' deserve respect.*

* a)  stupid: (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/stupid)

1.
lacking ordinary quickness and keenness of mind; dull.
2.
characterized by or proceeding from mental dullness; foolish; senseless: a stupid question.
3.
tediously dull, especially due to lack of meaning or sense; inane; pointless: a stupid party.
4.
annoying or irritating; troublesome: Turn off that stupid radio.
5.
in a state of stupor; stupefied: stupid from fatigue.

stupid: (http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/stupid)

a : slow of mind : obtuse b : given to unintelligent decisions or acts : acting in an unintelligent or careless manner c : lacking intelligence or reason : brutish
2
: dulled in feeling or sensation : torpid <still stupid from the sedative>
3
: marked by or resulting from unreasoned thinking or acting : senseless <a stupid decision>
4
a : lacking interest or point <a stupid event> b : vexatious, exasperating <the stupid car won't start>

As defined, the use of the term stupid will be, more often than not, a factual descriptor rather than 'name calling'.

*b) We know many people hold strange, detrimental, and often downright ridiculous 'opinions'.  For an (extreme) example:  some people hold the opinion that to kill another is a reasonable proposition, yet we enact laws against it.  Should we 'respect' their 'opinion' and do away with those laws and adjust our collective mindset to embrace their 'opinion'?

4) This area is/was called the Rough House for a reason.  I always loved it back in the day when people bitched about responses here but could never quite manage to not reply and stay out of this area of the forum if they didn't like the way it worked.

I don't know how many threads I've started in other areas that wind up here completely without my instigation.

But then, I always seem to expect far to much out of people.

Someone please call me a 'Waaaaaaaah-bulance'!

When the trolls showed up in the past -- mostly before you got here, none of us took our panties/Midol and ran.

We're still here.

You're still a newcomer with no concept whatsoever where this forum evolved from and what the history is.

That's why you are so irrelevant.

You seem to think you have come up with novel ideas in debate.

Mostly stayed in the games area and really didn't read much more of the forum.  I was only on the 'puter in the evenings at that time and had other things going on, it was pre-retirement days.  Why would it make me ignorant anyway just because I've been here quite sometime and just started exploring and posting in different areas the last couple of years or so?

Sure haven't broadened your horizons or you intelligence in politics in the United States have you.  You never go and reach out for anything more than the Republican talking points, blogs, and the lies of the Republican Dirty Tricks Team.  Have you?

But, after the 26,000 post you have made, you sure have make up for lost time with your blatherings.

Guess I spent more time in last one wins than I thought....LOL  Just different views on things Troll, just different views.  Like looking at a glass of water that's only half full you may think it's half empty and want to argue the point with me and we'd both be technically correct but you'd argue that I was wrong just because I didn't see it the same way you did.

Nope, I didn't just went to whatever game I happened to be playing at the moment and left.  Wasn't much interested in anything else then except relaxing out on the patio with a fire, playing music, working in the yard or, in the winter, watching a movie after a long day, or putting together puzzles.  Some days I didn't even turn the 'puter on.

Are you talking to me?  I have been around THIS forum since the beginning and the Hey Martha for three or four years before I came here...What NOVEL ideas have I suggested?  All I am saying is, after 10 years of debating the SAME people, it is getting kind of old...and yet, we all stay here and spout the same ol same ol....

Here is what I am getting at............WHY?  Why do we stay here?  I have been asking myself this question for a long time....I come here nearly every day....it is like "crack" on the internet...

I know darn well what the dialogue is going to be...we have had basically the same 10 or 12 members for the last 10 years....who is going to take which side of an issue, who is going to be an ass....and like I said, I am no different.  I am not pointing fingers at anyone, just asking the question....why are we here?

Okay let's look:

NBC, owned by GE. AND....GE and Obama are connected at the hip....GE gave $500,000 to Obama his last election and Jeffery Immelt NOW has a job working for Obama as the Chairperson of the Council on Jobs and Competitiveness
NBC own MSNBC too..

CNN is owned by Time Warner...who gave $624,000 to to Obama his last election, former Time Warner CEO Richard Parsons is an economic adviser for Obama.

Sumner Redstone who is the majority owner of CBS and Viacom.......gave generously to Clintons, Kennedy, and the democrat party.

This was pretty easy to figure out....

Uh, yeah, Henry, these corporations give lots of money to both sides to hedge their bets so that they get what they want whoever wins.  Are you suggesting, even for a moment that GE, as an example, is anything but one of the most ultra-conservative corporations on the planet?  If you are, you're either delusional of just plain stupid.

As I pointed out to you the other day, your 'liberal media' claims have been proven in several studies on the subject and are really nothing more than the claim you make when you don't have anything else to try to discredit the news that show how absolutely fucked up your guys are...pretty much the same way you use 'policy' as an excuse for your obvious racist leanings.

whatever.......that is ALWAYS your easy response as to when I have proved you wrong on something.

You proved no one wrong on anything.  Ever.  Maybe you should pull your head out of your ass and actually go look for the studies on whether the media has, by and large, a liberal or conservative slant.

NBC, ABC, MSNBC, CNN, and CBS

I keep hearing that Fox has higher ratings than all those outlets combined. Wouldn't that make Fox "mainstream media?"

WHOSE STUDIES?
I did a very simple one....I looked at WHO owns different media outlets and looked at their political contributions and who they supported...

NBC, IS owned by GE.

You seem to think all you have to do is SAY anything you want or post anything you want, claiming you read an article saying this or that...or even IF you post a link, you assume THAT is the truth, and all others is not...

If it does not fit YOU agenda, you look for one that does.

and THEN it is the truth and all others is lies.....

I really don't care one way or the other........... I know the truth and I am not trying to prove anything to you....

beleive what you want.  vote for who you want....

I don't care.

You make a statement like that and HH don't know shit?  Well, you might be right in a sense since Obama plays golf quite frequently and when he golfs with CEO's he probably says one or two things about business and pays for it all with our tax dollars.

EX.  You know that these companies wouldn't give a dime to the Republican Party.  What in hell is wrong with you.  You been taking Henry smart pills.  :haha:

The TV owners are just like a guy I knew that ran a high stakes poker game on Columbus Ave across from General Motors in  Anderson Indiana.  Each year in his poker den he threw two parties with all of the booze they could drink and all of the food they could eat.  One for the Republicans and one for the Democrats politicians and the police department.  They ate, drank and played poker.  He covered both sides and he stayed open for years.  He also give money each year to the Republicans and the Democrat parties.

One time they had a big gambling raid in Anderson, the Anderson and Madison cops were out in full force.  Raiding, Legions posts, the bars, the private clubs and I asked my friend if he had got hit.  He laughed and said, I got a call from a friend on the police department two day before the raids and I cleaned it out and made it look the place was a storage place.  :haha:  Henry you surly don't think corporations play fair do you.   :haha:

The very kind of "dialog" this topic was created to complain about in the first place, it appears to me.

Most of us have been here 6 years; some longer some shorter. You can tell who the contributors are by the stars under their names.

If you want to complain about others it is best to look inwardly first. If you expect something from others than give it first.

No. I am talking about the way some complain about the way they are responded to, when in fact they themselves adopted the very response style they are complaining about years ago. If you want others to treat you with respect you must be willing to do the same; first.

And first, respect yourself. Do the research to educate yourself on a topic you wish to speak to. While its okay to read whatever source you want to research, once you've begun forming an opinion on a subject then it is time to research your sources for the information. Are they accredited, validated, and most importantly, are they being truthful surrounding the conclusions they draw? What's their angle surrounding their approach? IS the information available via an accredited piece of work that is peer reviewed and published? And link to it.

If you use toilet paper as proof expect it to be used for its intended purpose. Support your views with unbiased and accredited information and you'll find the dialog goes much more smoothly. Expect to be challenged and be prepared to defend your position.

If you cannot do this without resorting to playground tactics, then perhaps you should re-think your intended course of action. . .

Yes, some people love to dish it out but oh how they cry when it is returned to them.    With the Troll, I don't' let my feeling get in the way of facts and logic.

It's like my feeling about abortion.  I don't like to see it, I wish there was some way to eliminate it.  I like to see our young women not get pregnant until they are at least 21 years of age.  I want all women who don't want to get pregnant stay pregnant free.

But, I sure don't want any government federal or state passing laws to take women's right to not carry a fetus to term if they don't want to.  And beyond a shadow of a doubt I sure don't want any go to hell religious group saying that the women will.

Just like I believe that the Republican Party is the last party to put back into office.  Their past record for the last 30 years that the GOP is 100% for the rich, corporations and they sure don't believe in the best interest of the sick, poor, downtrodden and the middle class people in America.

The GOP is pushing for and getting a Oligarchy and Corporatocracy America.  :trustme:  I want my America back where workers are free from scab Republican laws and Republican pro rich people's laws.  :flag:  :salute:

Just to set the record straight, I have never, EVER put forth one ounce of effort to drive you off the zone Troll....I have ZERO problem with you...as far as that goes, I don't care to have anyone "off' the zone.......that has never been a concern of mine....not my place to do so....anybody is welcome as far as I am concerned.....

For some reason it was okay to drive a recent person from the forum, because they "may" have been one of two people........even THEN, I did not care....they was not harming anyone.

My only thought was, that it is a shame, when there is a constant attack on a personal level at any person....I don't like playing that game, and have, in the past, got caught up in that....that is for 3rd graders in my opinion.

I know this is a unmoderated spot, and people can do what they want..........and I am still here after 6 years.....just saying it is not as much fun as it once was....that is it.

being attacked for my Christian belief on a personal level, when I have NEVER, thrown out my Christian beliefs at anyone on here...has crossed the line for me on a particular person.  Other than that, fire away!

That's kind of strange, coming from a conservative.

The law is the law, and it is to be obeyed, right?

If you don't like the law, you work to get it changed, but you don't violate it, right?

And, if it had been a liberal-leaning person who did that, it would have been ok, right?

And, the forums are not owned by anyone, right?

So no one has the right to create rules which we must obey to be able to post on that forum, right?

this person only added to the humor, in my opinion....something we lack sometimes.

...and yet, we all stay here and spout the same ol same ol....

Here is what I am getting at............WHY?  Why do we stay here?  I have been asking myself this question for a long time....I come here nearly every day....it is like "crack" on the internet...

.... just asking the question....why are we here?

I have some input on that subject.  I haven't posted much on this thread, but I've had a busy few days and have been doing some reading.  I view the Zone, probably like we all do, as kind of a coffee shop.  You go into a coffee shop every day for coffee; sometimes you go multiple times per day.  But after a while, you get to know people, and they become familiar to you.  You're not going to agree with everyone in the coffee shop all the time, of course, but if you stop going to the coffee shop for a bit, you tend to miss it.

Also, although the views and opinions of the people in the shop may not change, current events are always changing.  The world is an infinitely interesting place after all, and it never stays the same.  There are always new things going on to discuss.  New elections, wars, tragedies, deaths and illnesses, the cosmos, UFOs, sports, the MIAMI HEAT!! , etc.  The list is endless.

Although I don't always agree with all of you on the board, I would miss the interaction if I were ever to leave for any long period of time.  I've often found myself thinking, when reading about a new current event or something, what some of you here on the Zone are going to say about it before anyone ever posts on the subject.  ;D

That's why I'm here, and if you really think about it, it's probably pretty close to why all of us are.

Just my two cents worth.
