Here's another one- "Whats the #%*% is the matter with you numbnuts? Didn't your momma show you enough affection when you were a kid?"

(I have to run lines like that through my head in order to stay focused on the task when I am doing work like this).  :biggrin:

From what my daughters and other family members who were in the service have told me I don't know how ya'll took it. :no:  I understand, to and extent, the reasoning behind it but........

Man, those epithets brought back memories!

The best that was ever used on me was "You pathetic puke! If you don't get your candy ass over that wall faster, I'll personally rip out your eyes and skullf**k you!!"

Those guys all must have watched the same movies. Or else, the movie scriptwriters might have taken notes from these old maniacs.

Actually the guy who played the DI in FMJ is a retired Marine - 11 years and retired as SSGT but received honorary rank of Gunny. R. Lee Ermey. 1961-1971

Meritorious Unit Commendation, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal (w/bronze service star), Vietnam Campaign Medal (w/60 Device), Vietnam Gallantry Cross (w/Palm), Good Conduct Medal (w/2 bronze service stars), Marksman Badge (w/Rifle Bar) and Sharpshooter Badge (w/Pistol Bar).

After injuries forced him to retire from military service, he moved to the Phillipines and enrolled in the University of Manila, where he studied Criminology and Drama. Since then he's played an astounding number of military roles in the movies, served as technical adviser on movies, and currently has a gig hosting "lock-n-load" on the history channel, after a successful run on the same channel with "mail-call".

The guy gives me flashbacks! He growls, grunts, and roars in that same almighty tone as every other GD DI I ever had the pleasure of being around!  :biggrin:

Nope. They didn't have to. Ermey was hired initially as a technical consultant for the actor slated to play the role of the Gunny in FMJ. But he did such a stand up job demonstrating for the intended actor, that he stole the role right from under him and was hired instead. From there the writers just asked him what to write when it came to the Gunny's role!  :biggrin: Ermey got 2 paychecks for that film!  :biggrin:

Considering how long ago that was for me, I'd tend to agree with you, me.

It was the product of a huge amount of learning in a short time, an attempt to mold a soldier who could not only survive in a war zone, but also save others' lives, and artificial stress to push the envelope of someone's personal limits.

Emrey learned his techniques from some of the guys I had the "pleasure" to be "trained" by.
