Question: If an actor suffering from Alzheimer's can do it why can't a community organizer?

Pretty well put, Hank. I think most all of us share your concerns to some degree. Now, I'd like to have this subject "embiggened", with your permission: What can we simple folk DO to position ourselves for dark days to come? I'm especially concerned with protecting life savings, and possibly dealing with shortages (or inavailability) of goods. Please understand that I'm no survivalist or paranoid, but would like to have some kind of edge, just in case. Do you have any thoughts to share? Regards, Pa

You know Pa, far be it from me to be giving any advice to anyone...all I can say is my opinion....and many on here find that not worth too much... ;D

This is just me, and me only....but, I am going through a renewal of my faith in Christ at this juncture in my life....I am trying to step it up, as a husband, father, and friend.....and I still sometimes really struggle at being the person that I want to be.  But, I am putting GOD first as often as my mind allows me to....and THAT is where I struggle....especially when I go on one of my rants.... :spooked:

with that being said, I am in the process of purchasing a home, that is WELL, within my means.....I say that, as it is probably small for a family of the size that I have....(5 kids - with only 4 at home at this time)...but I have two in college with two  in elementary school and one going into high school...

I am situating myself to be able to support my family with only my income....so my wife can work for the savings.........I am very close to achieving this, but I am cautiously optimistic.....I have been listening to Dave Ramsey, and find myself really clinging to his thought process.....you should listen to him or read his book.

as far as the future of this country, I STILL believe in the American people!!!....I think this country is bigger than any presidency or congress..........it swings from left to right....and it will soon, return to the center again....I think this recession can and will fix itself....without Bush or Obama's help....but, the American people need to FIRST wake up....and start caring again....and voice their opinions MUCH clearer.....

I appreciate you even asking my opinion..and it is just that  my opinion.......but, it is also my outlook and my plan for my family.....

Yeah, Henry, share your military training with us.
Arguing with Christians is like playing chess with a pigeon.  No matter how good I am at chess, the pigeon is just going to knock over the pieces, shit on the board and strut around like it's victorious.

I'm not sure how to respond to you on this.....did I imply I knew anything about military training or indicate that anybody should?...

Of course you don't.  I was responding to Ma and Pa's post which seemed to be asking for ideas about how to protect oneself in the event of the certain chaos that will erupt should our economy collapse.

Well now I'M lost, Exterminator, what about military training? I'm way too old to enlist. Can you elucidate?

He didn't have Alzheimer's at the time and he had been a Governor before becoming President.

H. Hawk: Thanks for your response to my query about positioning one's self for even further social and/or economic reversals. I give credence to your opinion, or I wouldn't have asked for it. As I understand your stance on the matter, you are, in essence:
     1. Reaffirming your relationship with your Maker
     2. Securing affordable and sustainable housing for your family and
     3. Tightening up the details of your finances with the advice of this Mr.
         Ramsey
I can't find fault with any of that; hope it proves to be a good strategy for you.
Any thoughts on keeping/growing the hawk's nest eggs, other than keeping them in different baskets -- a must for everyone? CD's, stocks (now or later), Krugerrands in a coffee can in the back yard? The last shoe hasn't fallen yet,
vis a vis bank failures: National City has been bought out; Key Bank's stock has dropped like a rock. I don't have all that much faith in the FDIC, myself. I know there are moves I should be making, but for the life of me, I'm not sure what they are. Too smart not to be worried; too DUMB to know how to make out like a bandit.

Thanks Pa,

again, I'm really not the person to be giving out advice, but my opinion is that it seems to me that the next move by this administration is to take over (or nationalize) the banks....and Gov running ANYTHING is usually a bad thing.........so, this does not seem like a good thing....it is going to destroy the private sector...all competition of banking would be gone....THIS is NOT the role of our Government....at least it was not set up that way by our forefathers..........it is just another step towards socialism....again, in my opinion.

I find it quite disturbing to see so many, so quick to rush to judgment of an individual that has only been in office for 29 days. . .Seriously.

Hmmm...where have I heard that before .... UNLESS we invade Iraq, we will be fighting the terrorists on our own soil?

Are you high?  He worked the fear angle after 9/11 so hard that all of you chicken-hawks were soiling your diapers every time you turned around.

Like an unnecessary war?

Quote...he is preaching doom and gloom ..... UNLESS....we spend a zillion dollars on programs.

So hundreds of billions in Iraq is perfectly fine but hundreds of billions on the U.S. of A. is wrong?  WTF?

QuoteI am going PUBLIC as of NOW.....I do NOT trust this ADMINISTRATION....especially this President....

Well, there's a shocker...the guy who spent months spreading outright lies about Obama before the election suddenly doesn't trust him.  How do you rationalize your own dishonesty?
