I've been hit myself by a distracted driver in the past, and nearly lost a leg over it. It is an issue that is near and dear to my heart, and I can get thermo-nuclear over situations like these in a heart-beat. I have another friend who lost his leg in a similar accident to mine, but was lucky enough to have it reattached . He has stayed off motorcycles ever since, and my own experience kept me off them for over two decades. ($5 +/gallon diesel put me back in the saddle).

Every warm weather season we are barraged with news stories that document the slaughter; so much so that we barely pay attention to them anymore in the midwest. 

It's a spirit nurturing experience that carries inherent dangers; however the largest portion of that danger has nothing to do with the skills of the operator of the motorcycle, but rather the ineptitude of other drivers.

  I think that no matter how skilled  you are with a motorcycle you just can't keep up with the crazy women drivers that are out to kill you.  I had three close calls and I figured that after three strikes I was out as far as driving my Gullwing.  I sold it to some other "happy" guy.

Food stamps are the least of this nations problems.

In just 3 days this country is set to default on its debt, and the government is still shut down. We are no closer to reaching an agreement on either one of these issues than we were the last time we were faced with both of these issues at the new year.

10 months of NOTHING from the members of congress who we PAY to perform this work; and the best they are going to provide is yet another short-term solution that assures we are faced with it yet again at the holidays, or shortly afterwards.

This is totally unacceptable to me, and I am amazed that the American public, who pays these miscreants, are not demanding that they be removed from office due to poor work performance, and a special election held.



I say that they have ALL leaves and breaks eliminated until an agreement is reached, a budget is passed, and the debt ceiling situation addressed; each with LONG TERM solutions !!!

Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, and even Halloween do NOT exist for members of congress until these BASIC job responsibilities are met!

Never said food stamps were this nations worst problem.  But that mentality of people is why we are in this mess.  THEY VOTE.

I DO, however agree with you that ALL of them (congress) need to WORK things out.  I wish we had a way of FIRING them, instead of not voting for them.

I also will say that I am SICK & TIRED of the "republican" party.  I will no longer refer to myself as a republican.  THEY DO INDEED suck!  Don't get me wrong, I think the democrats suck even more, but I have come to despise the likes of Boehner, McConnell, McCain, Cornyn.  They do not represent me.

Until we get some term limits in place, this kind of crap will continue.

Another thing, if they don't want Obamacare for themselves, then screw it all. Do away with their pensions, and cut their salaries in half. 

Let the people who understand what "serving their country" means have these jobs.

I still say a bad law was passed, and it needs fixed.  But, I don't think furloughing innocent people is very cool, but maybe if we did not pay the POTUS, the SENATE and the HOUSE members until this was finished.....we would have a deal right now.

One of those people is my brother.  After a distiguished military career, he went to work as a chief investigator for the DOD and most recently the IG's office in the Dept. of the Interior.  This is how they repay his service to his country.

Well, once again I am subjected to unsolicited validation surrounding Madison County and my opinion surrounding what I see as its pessimistic attitude, bitterness, and addiction to the automotive industry.

The news today has Anderson, Muncie, and New Castle each vying for a 20 million dollar grant (Each. The feds are awarding three total) over the loss of 40k jobs within the three cities, due to the flight of automotive manufacturing operations within those three cities.

Come on man! Some of our public officials were among the loudest professing that the residents of this county need to get over what was and start looking to what will be. And yet, here we see them trampling each other in an effort to obtain a drink at the government tit!

Senate deal under discussion would reopen the government by funding it until January 15. It also would raise the debt limit until February 7 to avert a possible default on U.S. debt obligations for the first time.

Unacceptable. All this does in ensure that come the new year we will once again be faced with furloughed government employees, closed national parks, and a plethora of additional tripe;followed 1 month later by the old debt ceiling problem. Again.

And once again the battle lines will be draw in the final days/hours of each approaching deadline, with one side holding healthcare reform hostage and the other trying to get the business of the nation taken care of. And caught in the middle, the very people they work for that overwhelmingly want this to be SOLVED with LONG TERM solutions!

I will repeat my suggestion that ALL breaks and holidays be cancelled for every single member of congress until a permanent and long term solution is passed for both of these problems; while reminding them that healthcare is not on the table. 

Do these miscreants not understand that the impact of their posturing goes far beyond the lives of people and families that work directly for the federal government? There are tens of millions of companies in this nation that are refusing to hire employees, or give raises to the employees they already have, simply because of this congressional inability to do its damn job!

Who are you trying to kid.  If Obama gets his way with the HCB he won't give to hoots about the budget when it comes up again any more than he has for the past 5yrs.  He has other fish to fry and the budget is a tool he's using to get his way with and gun control will be one of them.
