I've got a closing at 8:30 Wed morning I have to go to and don't really want to drive in the snow to get there.  Gonna tell 'em to give me the papers, sign them, and then head to the chiropractor.  After that won't have to go out 'til I darn well feel like it.

Another nut job opens fire at a mall in Portland. 

My favorite cousin lives in Portland, and I have just finished a text message exchange with her.  Although the chance of her being at the mall at the time of the shooting was indeed remote, it wasn't zero.  She was safely at work in downtown Portland at the time of the shooting, and was fortunately nowhere near the mall.  I was glad to hear from her.

Here we go. As if Schmatter and Co. weren't enough, now comes Wally World:

. . .Apparently, Walmart's idea of 'shared responsibility' is to allow the American taxpayer to pick up the tab for Walmart's low-paid workers when these folks avail themselves of Medicaid coverage while Walmart hangs on to all the money they save by blowing off their responsibility to provide health care to these workers.

Clearly, Walmart's support for Obamacare was predicated on their understanding (all too well) that the provisions of the law requiring employers with more than 50 workers to provide employee health care benefits to full time workers could be easily avoided by their business model, while the expansion of the Medicaid program to include uninsured Americans earning below 133 percent of the poverty line would create a perfect opportunity for the giant retailer to foist their obligations onto the backs of the American taxpayer.

Walmart saves a bundle, courtesy of the American taxpayer—all of which drops directly to Walmart's already sizable bottom line and we pick up the tab. . .

And then one can only hope that Wally World will find the American public as disapproving as Schmatter and Co. did:

Fast food server, Applebee's, possessed a healthy Buzz score of 35 before Zane Terkel, CEO of one of the company's largest franchisees, appeared on television to complain about the law and to announce that he would not be building more restaurants or hiring any more workers in response to his objections to Obamacare.

Applebee's "pre-Terkel" Buzz score of 35 now sits at a pathetic 5.

I don't imagine Mr. Terkel will be getting many Christmas cards this year from other Applebee's franchise owners.

While these corporate complainers have sought to explain away the hit they are experiencing at the hands of the public's perception, one such company is facing the music straight on. Darden Restaurants, Inc.— owner of Olive Garden, Red Lobster and LongHorn Steakhouse—has lowered its profit projections for the quarter ending November 25th, acknowledging that its bad numbers are the result of poorly performing  promotions, Superstorm Sandy and...wait for it...the poor publicity it engendered by its decision to test out a plan to cut back on healthcare costs by putting more workers on part-time schedules.. . .
