All bets are off. The judge ordered the union and management into mediation.

THIS is what all these roundabouts are good for!

Roundabouts are statistically safer than intersections with traffic signals or stop signs...apparently not so much so when you're driving drunk.

IMHO only because they haven't been in place as long as traditional intersections.

When you put ponds in logistically close locations to roundabouts, there will be winter season drownings that have absolutely nothing to do with intoxication, and everything to do with shortsighted planning that ignores the safety of those who traverse such obstacles.

Every winter since I have lived in this state, people have drowned, or nearly drowned, at roundabouts with ponds near them. They are dangerous.

Not true; they've been using them in Europe for decades and the statistics on them both there and here are overwhelmingly positive.

I have to say the statistics surprised me when I read them, however I still suspect the statistics are not telling the whole story. There are a lot of roundabouts that are small, and in those cases I tend to agree that they are likely much safer. However, then there are the large ones that have multiple outlets, (such as the one on north Walnut Ave in Muncie), and invariably people that are unfamiliar with them create conflicts and potential accidents as they try to figure out what the hell to do.

Expecting drivers who were never taught how to navigate a roundabout in driver training courses they took in HS, (Before the US began using them), to automagically understand them is unreasonable. I believe most reasonable drivers automatically slow down for them because they do not know where the hell they are going, or are leery of others who don't know where the hell they are going.

Then there are those who navigate them every day, and treat them like a mini-500 as they whiz through them, and get pissed off when someone new to the area is trying to get through it.

Finally, it isn't the roundabout itself that I am against, as much as the bodies of water located in close proximity to them. Having lived in far northern states for the lion's share of my life, I know for a fact that the municipalities in this state do NOT know how to properly remove snow and ice from the roadways. Roundabouts create a special challenge to this operation that exacerbates the danger when a body of water is located close by.

Embrace change.

I'm embracing it; including changing how municipal planners and engineers approach the construction and layout of these roundabouts. . .

Try as you may, plan, plan as much as you can.  No matter what you build or make there will be people who misuse them.  You can make things fool proof, but you can't make anything idiot proof.  If these people can't keep out of these ponds, it just one idiot less.  These ponds which I think is a good way to get water back into the water table and not let it drain back to the Gulf of Mexico.  Adds to the beauty of the area.

People who drown in these ponds has no one to blame but themselves.  You don't swim where you aren't suppose to and you don't walk of thin ice.  I think also that people should teach their children how to swim.  The adults will get a pool and not teach their kid to swim.

I haven't ended up in a pond (yet) but I'll be the first to admit that I am one of those people who might. As long as I'm in familiar territory, even here in the D.C.metro area, I can go on automatic pilot most of the time as long as I remember not to slip into day-dreamer mode. Even then, I sometimes come up to a traffic light and suddenly realize my mind was elsewhere and think, "Where the heck am I!?"
