PH don't all bull dogs jaws lock when they bite?  Actually I was thinking it was only those pug nosed bull dogs whose jaws locked.  If Troll had stopped and thought he might remember that it was a pitt bull in all those Little Rascal movies.

Not sure. You can see from my dogs picture though that they have very strong jaw muscles. I'll get a picture of the other dog and post it.

I know, I know, he's your dog, your buddy and you would fight for him.  But you and I know their history.

But for some reason they are number 1 in vicious bits and injuries.   Number 1 in deaths in this country, over all of the other dogs.  I wouldn't own one and I wouldn't mind you and only you to own on.  Your trying to make a good dog out of one.  But a lot of people want them bad and mean.  Here is the problem.

But you know what you got and you know what your responsibly is.  I am glad I don't have to live with it.

But as they say, if you want someone to love you and love you just for being you, any time.  GET A DOG!

Of course you're going to have a dog with a screw loose every now and then, but for the most part, I think you can count on the problems a large dog has as being the fault of irresponsible pet ownership.

It's not the breed troll and you're right it's the idiots who buy them because of their power who either don't train and socialize them or they train them to be mean w/out fully realizing how dangerous that is (and cruel too imo). They buy them because they're cool and  don't consider the consequences and responsibility of that decision. Those are the dogs that make a poor name for the breed. I'm guessing the high numbers are directly linked to the popularity of the breed. Pittbulls are today's demonized dog. Yesterday it was the rottweilers and before that the dobermans. I keep waiting for thw Shizu's to get a turn ;D

There's a world of difference between a dog with a responsible owner and one without.

First of all, we all know how the media likes to work the numbers. . .

According to a study conducted by the American Canine Federation, the purpose of which was to determine true bite stats by taking the number of fatal attacks and divide them by the total population, thereby arriving at a true incident rate, the following was determined:

Apx. 240,000 - 12 Fatal Attacks Chow Chow .705%
Apx 800.000 - 67 Fatal Attacks German Shepherds .008375%
Apx. 960,000 - 70 Fatal Attacks Rottweiler .00729%
Apx. 128.000 - 18 Fatal Attacks Great Dane .01416%
Apx. 114,000 - 14 Fatal Attacks Doberman .012288%
Apx. 72,000 - 10 Fatal Attacks St Bernard .0139%
Apx 5,000,000- 60 Fatal Attacks American Pit Bull Terrier .0012%

As you can see,  chows, German Shepherds, Rotts, Great Danes, Dobermans, and St Bernards are all more likely to be involved in a fatal attack as opposed to the APB. There are more of the pit bulls and of course more irresponsible owners because of it. THAT is the problem and not the breed!

The odds of being struck by lightning are 1 in 600,000 in the USA. Comparatively speaking you are 6 times more likely to be struck by lightning than you are to be killed by a dog of any breed. When you further break down the odds of being attacked and killed by a Pit Bull the odds are in your favor -approximately 1 in 145,000,000. That's million folks. In contrast, you are 4 times more likely to be killed by a cow in the USA than any breed of dog, much less a Pit Bull.

http://pitbullregistry.com/unwaranted%20negative%20stigma.htm

Irresponsible owners are an indication of the threat of a particular breed toward human beings and the community in general. The fact is, if these same people owning pit bulls that are involved in a bite incident, instead owned another breed, they'd STILL be the main driver behind the bite incidents! If they owned a poodle it would bite people!

My father bred and raised white shepherds, American Eskimo Spitz, and Blood hounds at various points in his lifetime. I spent a lot of time around dogs my whole life; training them, caring for them, and learning myself what works and what doesn't. I know what a responsible owner does and does not do, and I know how to train a dog, not because I make a living from it, but because like my father I love dogs and know the true value and spice they add to our lives when you take the time to teach them what they need to be fulfilled and happy. Most people do not do those things and they lose a lot over it. But there are a few who do NONE of it and they are the ones responsible for the "bad dogs" in this world. More than anything else.

I raise my animals to understand that they are subservient to their masters, and that that authority extends to anyone welcomed into our household. It would not matter if my dog were a pit bull or a Jack Russell, s/he would behave the same way my pit bull does. The threat to any living thing only exists when they trespass upon my property or represent a potential threat to the well being of myself or my family.

I could leave my dog with you for a couple of weeks, during which he would do everything within his power to please you and in exchange he would place himself between you and any threat without hesitation. At the end of that two weeks he would change your mind on the trustworthiness and compatibility of the Pit Bull, of that I am 100% confident.

My daughters who live in Texas were scared to death of pit bulls, and when they heard we had one they swore they'd never spend a night under our roof with it. They came, they saw, and my dog won them over within the span of just a few hours, and when they went to sleep at night the dog walked them to their beds, gave them a good night kiss, and incorporated their rooms into his nightly patrol routine. He changed their minds, won their hearts, and is the ambassador of the breed we have raised him to be. It is the same way with anyone who is lucky enough to come to know our dog. Without exception, folks that have believed the hype and then spent some time with our dog, always end up saying, "I cannot believe he is a pit bull! They say they are so mean but he is such a GOOD dog and so loving! He has changed my mind!"

And that should be the goal of every single dog owner in my honest opinion, no matter what breed of dog you choose to bring into your life. When you hear such things said about your dog it confirms that you are upholding your end of the responsibility for him/her. They will give their lives without hesitation in defense of yours, and the least you can do in exchange is to provide them with the skills necessary to be happy and to uphold the reputation of their breed!

The German Shepherds remind me of the wolf we had for a while but of course he was built somewhat different.  One thing about him was if someone came on the property he was vicious especially if one of us was out there too but off his territory he was very docile and even walked with his head down.

The Troll

There are good dogs and there are bad dogs.  I have a friend who has a Jack Russell, I wouldn't trust that little bastard as far as I throw my truck.  He has bit his owners and family members.  I sure as hell not going to let him bit me.  I seen what he did to a coon that was almost as big as he was.

But there is one thing that will not change.  If you own a Pit Bull and it bits a child, your ass is grass.  Your going to need a lot of insurance and money to get out of it.  It's just that plain and simple.  I can't say anymore.

And just why do you suppose that is? Because the media is unfairly creating a false stigma associated with these dogs, and the public is being spoon fed lies and half truths!

Now surrounding children, parents need to teach their children respect for others. When they don't a child will taunt and enrage other peoples animals and eventually they will get bit. My own granddaughter was bitten by a Rott, but do I blame the animal? No! First of all my daughter should have taught her not to reach into an animal's food bowl when the animal is feeding. Secondly, the owner of the animal should have taught the animal that human beings have the right to reach into their food bowl and to tolerate it. (As my wife and I have taught our animals since we knew they would be spending time with children.)

To tell you the truth, we had a VERY hard time getting homeowner's insurance just because of the breed of our dog!

The Troll

Have you watch the TV News.  Channel 6.

3 Greenfield cops are out on Highway 40 at 12 o'clock midnight riding 3 abreast on their bicycles.  A woman witness said when she came up behind them, she could hardly see them and passed them at the last second.

Well, someone didn't see them and hit one and killed them and that person left the scene.  The cops put out a 4 state alert for that Toyota and any for anyone trying to buy a headlight.  There is nothing they won't do for themselves.

The cop got a police escort to the funeral home, and they got a police car out in front of the station draped in black.

But when they kill one of us, they hide, cover up and lie to protect themselves.  If I knew who did it, I wouldn't turn them in.

I  seen on TV where the woman who might have hit and killed one of the Greenfield cops on Highway 40, a four lane road.  Riding 3 abreast at 12 midnight was about ready to turn herself in.

The newscaster said the the the three cops were on a "training ride" on their bicycles.  WHAT THE HELL, A "TRAINING BIKE RIDE" AT MIDNIGHT ON A BUSY STATE HIGHWAY.  BULLSHIT!

Never heard of such a thing and if it's true, it has to be one of the most stupid thing I have heard cops do.

One of the cops said it was a good that she was turning herself in..  Why didn't the cop turn in himself and confess that he kill a motorcyclist while he was drunk.  2.3 drunk.  Instead of all of they playing cover-up.
